Hotel Morabeza is a difficult hotel to review because it has almost everything needed for a fantastic holiday. Unfortunately, the service and general attitude towards guests really let it down. Firstly, the positives. The location is excellent, right in the heart of Santa Maria. The rooms are lovely, spotlessly clean, and the beds extremely comfortable. The pools and facilities are great, with mini golf, tennis and a games room. The food is another highlight. Breakfast is good, the grill is excellent (particularly the fish), and Cape Verde night is a fantastic experience. In terms of the hotel itself, there’s genuinely very little to complain about. Unfortunately, the hospitality is where Morabeza falls short. This started before arrival, when getting responses to emails proved difficult, and continued throughout our stay. To be fair, there are exceptions. The gentlemen working at La Tortue upstairs bar were fantastic: friendly, attentive and genuinely welcoming. One lady in guest services was also particularly helpful. Sadly, these individuals felt like exceptions rather than the norm. Across reception, much of guest services and Les Palmiers restaurant, interactions often felt transactional and lacking warmth. Little smiling, enthusiasm or genuine willingness to help. Most disappointing was regularly feeling like we were inconveniencing staff simply by asking for something. Whether requesting assistance, asking a question or exchanging a pool towel, the attitude could make you feel like a nuisance rather than a welcome guest. Staff weren’t necessarily openly rude, but there was often a noticeable lack of friendliness and approachability. We’re not expecting anyone to bend over backwards, just a smile and a willingness to help. A few other frustrations: * Pool towels: One towel per person, exchangeable daily, is perfectly reasonable. However, staff sometimes seemed defensive when asked to exchange them, despite us simply following hotel policy. A small issue that reflects the wider service problem. * Half-board: No option to swap dinner for lunch. Given the brilliant location and opportunities to eat out in Santa Maria, greater flexibility would be appreciated. * Wi-Fi: Extremely unreliable, almost to the point of being unusable. * Beach facilities: The beach club was closed following a storm, understandably outside the hotel’s control. However, there appeared to be little effort to offer an alternative, such as sunbeds nearby where conditions permitted. Ultimately, Morabeza’s biggest weakness isn’t its facilities, but its hospitality. It’s a lovely hotel with an excellent location, comfortable rooms, great food and plenty to enjoy. The foundations of a fantastic holiday are all there. However, hospitality is about making guests feel welcome, valued and looked after. Too often, the experience felt focused on rules and policies rather than genuinely helping guests. That’s what makes it particularly frustrating. The difficult things, location, facilities, cleanliness and food are already excellent. What’s missing is arguably the simplest: warmth, friendliness and a genuine willingness to help. With better communication, more flexibility and a few more smiles, Morabeza could easily be a fantastic hotel. As it stands, it’s a good hotel that could be so much better, which is ultimately the biggest disappointment.

I have stayed here 4 times and see it as my second home. Family run, which I like to support, quiet, peaceful, classic, classy and immaculately maintained. As a single traveller I feel safe, cared for and welcomed. The staff have always looked after me, ensuring I am ok. Sometimes travelling alone you can be ignored as a lady, but not here. Jorge security and his team have always made sure I am safe. Kanny, luna and Victor and Gigi are always friendly and helpful on the activities desk. The yoga teacher Stephan and Marina the Tao lady are fabulous. Manuel the gardener and his team passionately look after the grounds beautifully... so well maintained. Raking of sand..flowers blooming. The pool maintainance is of top care. Restaurant staff, always smiling. My room was cleaned and tidy when returning after my day. The hotel is the first one at the start of the promenade, bars, restaurants etc Live Music at night, massages for €25 and Papaya restaurant opposite for organic healthy food. Turquoise sea, golden sands and a deep feeling of peace covers you when you step onto Sal... May it stay sacred and unique 🙏

Very nice experience. Location is perfect (beach+shops+village+bars and restaurants). The history of the hotel is very interesting and knowing it (I recommended you search for it in the net) adds to the experience. Breakfast was good. All the staff was helpful and kind. Very simple activities like "crioulo lesson" and "uril game lesson" are recommended, right after breakfast, for a feeling of Cabo Verde that you don't get in a resort hotel (and we've tried it after our stay in Morabeza). The 3 pools were good and almost empty at any time. The beach club is good, we had lunch there 2 times and the food was very good.

We need had an excellent stay at this hotel and was truly impressed by the level of service and attention to detail throughout the entire experience. The staff were welcoming, professional, and always ready to assist with a smile, making every moment feel comfortable and personalized. One of the highlights of the property is its ideal beachfront location. Waking up to stunning ocean views and having direct access to the beach created a relaxing and luxurious atmosphere that made the stay even more memorable. The hotel also offers fantastic on-site facilities, including excellent restaurants with a great variety of food and a vibrant beach club perfect for enjoying the sunset, cocktails, and music by the sea. Everything is thoughtfully designed to provide guests with both comfort and entertainment. Overall, this hotel exceeded expectations in every way, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a perfect beachfront getaway with outstanding service and premium facilities.

What a lovely vacation we had at the Morabeza hotel! We arrived at around 03:00 and despite of the hour they were nice and accommodating. There was a mistake with our bed request, but the very next day they sorted it out. Breakfast is american, yet if you arrive 5 minutes before closing, you can still find everything warm and perfectly placed. Amenities and installations are very well kept; the pools are pristine, and the beach club is a grat place to spend the day. Prices are OK, and service is more than attentive -even if you're not staying at the hotel. The whole staff were super nice, helpful and made our experience a once in a life time holiday. Only downside was the kind of bathroom door in our room (400 block) -a kind of window blind- which made it impossible to stay in the room when the other party had to use the WC... but even so, they did try and help us laying a plastic curtain to help with the odor. Definitely a hotel I'll always recommend for friend traveling to Sal.
