The enchanting Mermaid Hotel and Club is an ideal choice for couples looking to enjoy a delightful romantic getaway in a divine tropical sanctuary by the sea. Situated in a peaceful fishing village, close to the town of Kalutara on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, the hotel boasts all the modern luxuries needed for an exquisite break in this spectacular location. The Mermaid Hotel’s all-inclusive package allows guests to fully relax during their holiday knowing that all their meals and drinks are covered. The programme generally consists of breakfast (08:00-10:30), lunch (13:00-15:00) and dinner (19:00-21:30), all buffet style, served in the main restaurant. During meals soft drinks, beer, water and wine are offered. Locally produced alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks like water, wine, refreshments, soft drinks, beer, spirits, etc. are served from 11:00-22:00 (except during meal times).

Guests have the choice of a number of dining options while staying at the Mermaid Hotel. Diners can select from a wide-ranging a la carte menu or enjoy a buffet meal at the main restaurant. A range of Sri Lankan specialities are available, including freshly prepared seafood, as well as an array of international dishes served as part as theme night buffets, with a range of wines available to complement meals. The restaurant also offers al fresco dining, while guests can enjoy a romantic dining experience in the garden, by the pool or by the beach.

It’s a beautiful hotel with a very spacious garden area and a lovely pool. There are also badminton and cricket grounds, which is a great addition. Most of the staff are friendly, but a few were rude and a bit judgmental. We stayed in a deluxe room, and the view was amazing. The room and washroom were clean, tidy, and very spacious. Overall, the room was definitely worth the money. I was on a full board basis, but personally, I didn’t enjoy the food much as the variety and taste didn’t meet my expectations. We visited during Sinhala Avurudu, and the hotel had planned many games and decorated the place beautifully, which made the experience special. On another night, I ordered a tomato and cheese sandwich with French fries, but the fries tasted slightly burnt. The beach is also nearby, which is a plus. The hotel is well maintained and has a really nice, relaxing atmosphere. Overall, I would rate this place 6.5/10.

We booked two full-board rooms for a family birthday celebration, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the food was delicious and well presented. We enjoyed all three buffet meals, which offered a wide variety of options along with an action station. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our stay. They even surprised us with a complimentary birthday cake for our father and a lovely bed decoration, which made the celebration extra special. We also felt very safe, as there were lifeguards at both the pool and the beach. Even though the hotel was full of foreign guests, we truly appreciated that the staff treated local guests with the same level of care and respect. Highly recommended for a memorable family stay!

Highly recommended hotel with exceptional hospitality and outstanding service. We opted for the half-board package, and both the dinner and breakfast buffets were superb with an excellent variety. I visited to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and the team surprised us with a beautifully presented, delicious cake, making the occasion even more special. Truly a memorable experience.

What a little gem we had an incredible stay. Every member of staff went the extra mile to make our stay memorable,from the chef coming out at every meal to show my wife what was gluten free and they made her different bread every meal. The waiters were so attentive but not over the especially Captain and Cheeky, the pool guy ,bar staff and house keeper just couldn’t do enough. The hotel even put on Theeee most beautiful sunset every night

My partner and I stayed at the Mermaid for two weeks and I can honestly say we had nothing but positive interactions with all the people who worked there, the staff couldn’t do enough for us and we were made to feel very welcome. The room was large and clean with a king sized bed which was great as we are both quite tall and the Air Con was a godsend. The buffet both for breakfast and evening meal was decent with plenty of choice and we had clean water from a dispenser on our corridor. The pool guys were particularly helpful especially Thilina who is a credit to the hotel. We had three monkeys visit us most days and they would take food by hand and there were also crows and chipmunks. We would see and hear the sea from our balcony and it was lovely just to sit and listen. We loved our stay and will definitely return to the Mermaid, please take no notice of the negative reviews, it was very good for the price we paid.
