I chose this resort since it was not one of those big, sprawling, concrete monstrosities that seems to dominate the Jamaican tourist industry! I was looking for a smaller, boutique hotel and the decor theme looked similar to Bali, where we had our last big holiday, so appeared, quiet, calm and relaxing. The bedrooms are a good size with a separate area for suitcases in the bathroom, a nice balcony with a lounger, table and chairs and there is a Smart TV. However, I'm very disappointed that I get the feeling that the management do not take care of upkeep and maintenance very well. There was a large crack in our washbasin and the room looked a bit tired and dark. The resort itself was beautifully designed but we had several issues on our visit. On three occasions there were problems with the water and it was turned off ( and not communicated to us before hand); the coffee machine was only working on one day during our 6 nights stay; the WiFi on the beach was temperamental. What was bizarre was I was able to pick up the WiFi from the Royal Dalton a distance along the beach while they were closed for renovations yet the WiFi for Sunset was not available! We were not a huge fan of the dining. The choice was limited, in comparison to other all inclusives I've started in in Jamaica. Additionally, the options seem to include too much highly processed foods such as the desserts which all appeared to have the synthetic whipped cream on top. Even the fine dining restaurants needed some tweaks ( ensure the cutlery is correct with proper soup spoons and dinner knives; do the servers know that sparkling wine should not be called champagne unless it's from that region in France?) Nonetheless, I do appreciate that many guests enjoy the food and several UK guests we spoke with had returned to holiday at this resort several times. The staff are absolutely wonderful! Big up to Amanda at the front desk. But all staff automatically apologised ( when there management issues) taking responsibility for the coffee machine not working or the broken pipework. They were all hospitable, polite and attentive. Overall, Sunset in the Palms has the making of a really good resort but they need investment in maintenance and consider including more healthy food choices.

We stayed at Sunset at the Palms for 3 nights as a couple. Overall, our stay was okay, with some highlights and some disappointments. One important thing to note (which I wish I had paid more attention to in reviews): the beach is across a busy road. The resort does have staff and a system to help guests cross, but it still wasn’t the most relaxing or seamless experience and took away from the “easy beach access” feeling. The property itself is beautiful, very lush and tropical, and once you’re on the beach, the water and views are absolutely gorgeous. The rooms were fine, nothing special. Housekeeping did a very good job and kept the room clean. However, the shampoo and conditioner were clearly diluted with water, which felt disappointing for a resort at this level. Service was mixed. Some staff were kind, but not everyone was friendly. One uncomfortable moment stood out: when we arrived and went to lunch, I explained that I have food allergies and asked what options were available. The server didn’t make eye contact, didn’t respond verbally, and quietly walked away. Later I realized she went to the kitchen to check, which I appreciated — but the lack of communication felt awkward and unwelcoming in the moment. The food was good but not great — enjoyable, but not particularly memorable. We were also surprised by how limited the fresh fruit options were. In summary, the resort has a beautiful setting and stunning beach, but the beach access, inconsistent service, and small details kept the experience from being truly relaxing or special. Our stay was fine, but not one we’d be eager to repeat.

First the pros... The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The food is delicous & fresh tasting. They have good drinks, not a stingy pour. The staff are kind, very friendly. Like they are really the resorts greatest asset! Now the cons... The rooms are very outdated. The wall plates. for lights, etc are rusty, the grout is stained in the bathrooms, the body shower heads didn't work. Our upstairs shower leaked into the downstairs bathroom. Our downstairs a/c didn't work. We called for repair and they did come fairly quickly but when they left it still didn't work. We ended up just staying upstairs whenever we were in the room. The upstairs toilet ran constantly. Our wooden slat blinds were screwed shut so we couldn't open them for more light. There isn't a convenient ice machine, you have to go to one of the bars to get ice. We asked at the front for soda to bring back to our room and they said they'd bring it but never did. This happened twice, the other times we asked, they did bring it. The cats...I love cats. I don't mind them hanging around. It's cute, they beg for food, people feed them...all cool. What's not cool is a tom cat that sprays the tables to mark his territory. He sprayed my table twice and I saw him spray many more throughout my stay. It's absolutely disgusting while people are eating to have him walking around spraying. I've included a photo of the offender. All the other cats are chill. Overall, for the money spent, this place misses the mark for me. It doesn't feel luxury or boutique because of the age/ state of the rooms.

Fantastic hotel. Weather was awful for 8 out of 10 days, but we didnt mind. The grounds are beautiful, humming birds, wood peackers and what seemed like king fishers visit the balcony. Wanted to stay. The staff are genuinly friendly and welcoming. Would come again.

We had the best time at this resort. It was so peaceful and full of beautiful plants and animals. The beach is absolutely gorgeous and just a small walk across the street. The food was slightly repetitive, but still well prepared every time. The service is where this resort shines. The people who work here are genuine and kind. Kevan, the lifeguard was such a great help to us by making sure we had the best time. He was courteous, helpful, friendly and funny. Travis was another awesome employee we met. He worked security and always had a smile ready, and offered any information we needed to make sure our stay was as enjoyable as possible. The ladies and gentlemen at the front desk were so pleasant, even though we bugged them so often. We had a wonderful time and are already dreaming of the day we return. This was our honeymoon, and it was absolutely amazing. Thank you to the staff!!!
