Barbados

Adventure

Barbados oozes adventure and excitement, and if you’re seeking thrills, then this is the perfect holiday destination. Harrison’s Cave Eco-Adventure Park offers a host of wonderful activities, including a tram tour through the underground caves, where ancient stalagmites and stalactites can be admired. There’s also exhilarating ziplines, a challenge course and swimming available for extra moments of fun. Walk through the mahogany trees of the Barbados Wildlife Reserve and discover a host of endemic flora and fauna, such as Barbados green monkeys, tortoises, iguanas, deer, peacocks, parrots and macaws. Take in the sights of this divine Caribbean island in a unique and fun-filled way: On an ATV tour. Venture off the beaten path and beyond the usual tourist spots to uncover the real Barbados. Explore lush countryside, coastal paths and much more breathtaking scenery. You can also enjoy horse riding, cycling, hiking, and jeep safaris on your adventure getaway.

Barbados

Beaches

Discover paradise on a Barbados beach holiday thanks to more than 80 exceptional expanses located across this Caribbean island. Situated on the south-east coast, Crane Beach, regarded as one of the top beaches in the world, boasts billowing coconut trees and towering cliffs as well as a lively atmosphere. Located only a short distance away from Crane Beach, Bottom Bay is a secluded, quieter alternative providing jaw-dropping scenery and turquoise waters. Relax here and even do a spot of whale watching from the cliff tops. Similarly, Bathsheba Beach is also known for rougher waters but is superb for tanning, strolling along the shore, where a number of tidal pools have formed, and taking scenic pictures of an idyllic haven. Nestled on Barbados' divine Platinum Coast, Mullins Beach is a family-friendly hotspot, with calm waters for swimming and water sports, soft white sand and on-site dining at the delicious Sea Shed restaurant.

Barbados

Water Sports

Experience a host of exhilarating activities on your Barbados escape. Feel the island energy as you splash through the aquamarine waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. Barbados is particularly wonderful if you’re searching for a snorkeling or scuba diving holiday, thanks to a diverse array of coral reefs and shipwrecks just waiting to be explored. Carlisle Bay, Brownes Beach and Pebbles Beach offer shipwreck sites that are teeming with marine life such as sea turtles, octopi, seahorses, nurse sharks and reef sharks. The Folkestone Marine Park in Saint James is another hub for aquatic fun with lots of aquatic activities, an underwater park, museum and salt water aquarium. For the ultimate waves to surf, head to Bathsheba Beach on the east coast, where you’ll find the world-class “Soup Bowl”, a hub of incredible water sports action. Stay dry while enjoying the unique marine sights of Barbados on a catamaran cruise or submarine tour.

Barbados

Culture

Experience Barbados' warm hospitality and culture on your island getaway when you fully immerse yourself in this dazzling destination. Spend a day in Bridgetown uncovering an array of interesting cultural hotspots. This UNESCO-listed capital is bursting with colonial architecture dating back to the 1600s, including George Washington House, as well as the Kensington Oval, where a game of the national sport, cricket, can be watched. Take in the sights and sounds on a walking tour of Bridgetown or enjoy serene moments visiting the many museums and art galleries. Barbados hosts a number of exhilarating cultural festivals throughout the year, including the joyful Crop Over Festival. Taking place every July and August, this 200-year-old tradition honours the end of the sugar cane season with parties, street fares, food and vibrant markets. To signify the end of Crop Over, the island explodes into life on Grand Kadooment Day with colourful costumes and dancing from dawn until dusk.

Barbados

Cuisine

You can’t visit the glorious island of Barbados without dining on the mouthwatering local Bajan cuisine. Make sure you sample the likes of flying fish and cou cou, the national dish of Barbados, macaroni pie, fish cakes, pudding and souse and rice and peas. For an authentic immersion into Bajan flavours and cooking techniques, dine at the world-class Oistins Fish Fry. Located in Christ Church, every Friday and Saturday night, you can watch your food be grilled or fried right in front of you, alongside music or live singers. Christ Church's St Lawrence Gap is considered the main entertainment district and you’ll find many bars, clubs and delectable restaurants here, such as Castaways, Cafe Sol and Pureocean. No Barbados holiday is complete without tasting the local rum. You’ll find many distilleries across this island offering tours and tastings, including Mount Gay, the world’s oldest rum.

Time

Best time to visit

A holiday to the Caribbean paradise of Barbados promises nothing but endless sunny days and blissfully warm weather. With an average of 3,000 hours of sunshine guaranteed, you’ll be in sun-soaked heaven as you experience the top must-do activities and attractions on offer in this dreamy destination. Expect an average daytime temperature of 30℃ during the summer, perfect for topping up your tan, enjoying the luxury amenities of your hotel and getting active on the beach with some water sports. The summer time is when you’ll experience the most rainfall, though showers usually come in short bursts and are a welcome respite from the warm weather. The best time to visit Barbados is between December and May, as this is considered the dry season. Take advantage of the pleasant conditions as you explore this idyllic island, encounter endemic wildlife and immerse yourself in its deep-rooted culture. Whatever time of year you visit, we recommend you pack light and breathable clothing, lots of swimwear and sun protection.
