We stayed at the Meliá Llana Beach Spa & Resort for our honeymoon, and the experience was deeply disappointing for a hotel that markets itself as a 5-star resort. Connectivity and Room Service The Wi-Fi was unacceptable. It never worked in our room, which is simply not reasonable nowadays specially at this price point. The room itself was comfortable, but housekeeping was inconsistent throughout our stay: some days it was cleaned before 11 a.m., other days as late as 3 p.m. On several occasions, towels were removed and not replaced, forcing us to call and ask for them. One morning, the staff member restocking the minibar or water left our room door wide open. When we returned from breakfast, the door was still open and the room hadn’t been cleaned. We reported this to reception and were only sent towels, no cleaning, no explanation. Fortunately, nothing was missing, but the situation was unacceptable. On our last day, when we returned from breakfast at 9:30 a.m., our room access had already been deactivated, as if we were being pushed out early, despite checkout being at 12:00. Spa and Facilities The so-called spa is a joke. It essentially offers massages only. The jacuzzi had cold water and was almost empty, and another facility (either the sauna or steam room) was not working. The TV is not a smart TV. Only four channels showing the same movies on repeat. Dining Experience The Pura Vida restaurant is not what it advertises. You must book in advance, the menu is extremely limited (basically meat or burgers), and the “BBQ” option costs an extra €40. The tuna tartare was not fresh and made me feel unwell afterward. Pools and General Service Getting a sunbed by the pool is nearly impossible because guests reserve them with towels early in the morning, and the hotel does nothing to control this. The food overall was acceptable but nothing special. We informed the hotel in advance that this was our honeymoon and asked about services and reservations. They replied two days after we had already checked in. Basic information about the hotel (towels, reservations, snacks, transportation to Santa Maria, etc.) is only provided if you explicitly ask. At checkout, no one asked about our stay, no feedback, no thanks, not even a simple “we hope you enjoyed your time.” Staff and Overall Impression Only a handful of staff members were genuinely kind. Most seemed to be just doing their jobs with minimal interaction or care. Overall, this was an experience far below expectations, mediocre in many aspects and frankly disappointing, especially as it was meant to be the final part of our honeymoon.

Thanks for a wonderful stay at Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa, and I would like to commend the hotel across all departments for the consistently high level of service provided. From reception to housekeeping, restaurants, bars, pool staff, spa and entertainment teams, everyone was professional, friendly, and genuinely attentive. The hotel is beautifully maintained, the food offering is varied and well presented, and the overall atmosphere is relaxing and refined. A massive thank you to Elisa from Guest Relations, who handled our request to change rooms with exceptional professionalism, efficiency, and kindness. She listened carefully, understood our needs, and resolved everything smoothly, turning a potential issue into a very positive experience. Her approach truly reflects the high standards of the Meliá brand. Thanks to the dedication of the entire team, our stay was memorable and stress-free. We would not hesitate to return and highly recommend this resort to anyone visiting Sal, Cape Verde.

Stayed 10 nights here early-Dec 2025, our first time to CVI. Very happy with the hotel resort, well maintained pools & gardens, and only a €5 cab ride from Santa Maria. Reception welcome was fine, hotel staff very attentive and generally friendly. We booked a deluxe swim-up room, to avoid the daily sunbed rush. Had a problem with the shower head, which was fixed quickly same day. Towel replacement was sometimes slow. Nespresso coffee machine would have been nice, rather than kettle & Nescafé. But otherwise good. The all inclusive Mosaico food and drinks were generally good (free mini- bar in the room too), good choice of fish (no lemon !). The Italian restaurant was average, but the lunch at the snack bar was very good. Avenue reception bar had some good live music, and Azul club opened late for dancing.

The beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable - we requested a mattress topper after being told by TUI this was an option but we still had poor quality sleep overall. The rooms were dated, dark, depressing and needed updating. Our bathroom door didn't close properly, neither did the shower door which caused it to leak. The shower went cold very quickly. There were issues with towels and our hand towels kept being taken from our room by housekeeping and not replaced - we asked for fresh towels once during a 10 night stay and they were not provided. We also asked for our bed sheets to be changed once during 10 night stay and this was not done, evidenced by the same stained pillow case being present. Having to pay a deposit for towel cards is not a 5* experience especially when you can't change the towels as you wish because the towel booth was not staffed when advertised and regularly ran out of towels. The ATM at the hotel was out of service when we arrived so we had to go to a different hotel to get cash to get towel cards. However when we got back we were told - by a different member of staff - that we could have paid on card. Activities did not run according to the timetable - on New Years Day we planned our day around the 9am stretching session and waited 15 minutes and it never happened. Snack bar had insufficient tables - we couldn't get in on occasion. Snack bar closed for maintenance for 2 days and we weren't informed in advance. One of those nights we were booked for our A la carte dining experience there (BBQ) and the hotel were unable to provide us with an alternative and didn't acknowledge it was our anniversary. We weren't aware until the end we could have booked a la carte at the partner hotels - the staff don't tell you anything unless you specifically ask so information is limited. The gym was very small and often busy - the one time we went at a time it was suggested it would be quieter it was being used for rehearsals for the NYE event so half the space was closed and being used by staff. Every day there were things which were not available on the drinks list - sometimes multiple things for example one day there were no lemons or limes meaning you couldn't have half the cocktail list. WiFi was poor and could only connect in bedroom whilst TV was on. There were insufficient chairs for NYE event. Food/buffet extremely repetitive and insufficient vegetarian options.

It was convenient, cleaning took place every day and you will find something to eat for each meal. Never the less its not worth 5 stars. We spent 10 days of which 4 of them not in the room as booked. So we had to discuss and fight for the room which we actually paid more than we received. The employees responsible for level guests didnt really try to make your stay great, they were mostly concerned for the resorts profit and their own time on the mobile phone 😅
