My husband and I have just returned from a weeks stay at Sugar Bay following a weeks Cruise. This hotel is superb. From the moment i entered the hotel i knew we were going to have a wonderful time. Welcome drinks (strong!!) and a smooth check in. Allocated a gorgeous pool view room on the ground floor - 133. Reef restaurant is wonderful - the food is superb with such a variety of choice. We were able to visit 'Tumi' and 'Sizzle' once during our stay as part of the AI - The food is fabulous. 'Colin's' for lunch and drinks is great too. We had the best week at the hotel and are booking to return next year. The cocktails are incredible, the beach beautiful, the pool relaxing. Entertainment is relaxing/classy and suits the hotel. The team of hotel staff are incredible - good conversations/kind and helpful. We had such a perfect week - it has been incredibly hard to adapt back to the London weather and work..!!!

First and foremost, I want to sing the praises of the staff at Sugar Bay; such wonderful people. My wife and I loved our time at Sugar Bay. Overall I thought the food was great; kudos to the kitchen staff. The buffet at The Reef was fresh with great flavors and ever changing options during our time. We enjoyed lunches at Colin’s Bar/Grill with some local inspired daily specials. We also enjoyed Valentines seafood dinner at Sizzle Steakhouse; lobster and blackened snapper. Most nights there was talented musical entertainment. One night had fire dancers. Resort had plenty of beach lounge chairs and the ocean was a refreshing temperature in February. The sports/beach team would bring out an umbrella on request. And one morning I walked down to see the racehorses swimming at Pebbles Beach; just a ~15minute walk.

Sugar Bay is in an excellent position on the south coast of Barbados which does not suffer from the road noise pollution that some in the area do. Its beach area is expansive and clean and the pool area is very nice too. Our room overlooked the garden, so didn't have much of a view, but the balcony and room were very quiet and secluded which suited us. The food let it down slightly. There was plenty of it, a lot of choice, and it was of good quality, but being a buffet it was often lukewarm, and we Brits like our food hot! Alcoholic drinks seemed to be made with no-name spirit brands or from unlabelled bottles, but they were fine if you value quantity over quality.

We had a mixed experience during our stay. The kids club was truly a highlight - warm, attentive staff, thoughtful activities, and a genuinely positive experience for our children. Our kids absolutely loved it and looked forward to going each day, which made a big difference for our family. However, we were disappointed with how a safety concern was handled. When we calmly raised an issue regarding an interaction with security and clearly expressed that we did not feel safe, the response from management felt defensive rather than reassuring. Responsibility was deflected, and a request for a refund so we could relocate elsewhere, as well as a personal apology, was declined. The response was that we were free to stay somewhere else, but without a refund or apology. The conversation took place in a public area, and another hotel guest overheard the exchange and felt compelled to interrupt, expressing surprise at how the situation was being handled. This further underscored how uncomfortable and dismissive the interaction felt. I later noticed other reviews describing similar experiences with management, and based on my own experience, I can unfortunately relate. I’m sharing this feedback so future guests can make informed decisions and so the property has the opportunity to improve how guest concerns - especially those related to safety - are addressed.

We had a fantastic 10 night stay at Sugar Bay in August\September 2025. The weather was great and the entertainment was superb. The rum punch was deadly but in a good way. It was a very relaxing time, just what we needed as this was our first beach holiday in many years. The food was great with a eclectic mix of local and international cuisines. Great choices for everyone no matter how adventurous a palate you may have. We would like to especially thank the staff at Sugar Bay for making our stay special in particular Sophia, Samantha E., Cherese, Andre, Kimberly and Justin. Thank you so much!!! We can't wait to go back there again!
