Cape Sounio, the iconic Athens Riviera resort by Grecotel, unveils its 2026 theme, “The 13 Full Moons of 2026,” celebrating a rare year of 13 full moons. Uniquely positioned facing the Temple of Poseidon, it is the only hotel in the world where guests can witness the moon rising directly behind the ancient temple, creating a spectacular and globally celebrated phenomenon. Recognised among Tatler’s 101 Best Hotels in the World 2026, the resort combines celestial events with curated experiences including full moon hikes, night swims under meteor showers, and special themed dining.

Following a full renovation in 2025, the resort features 139 rooms, bungalows, suites and villas immersed within pine forests and archaeological surroundings, just under an hour from Athens. The newly enhanced Spa introduces the expanded “Elevations of Wellness” programme by renowned osteopath Vicky Vlachonis, blending ancient Greek healing with modern science, alongside new Full Moon Rituals and the discovery of a private Spa Beach for exclusive wellness experiences.

With five restaurants, three bars, new additions including the Villa Poseidon, Water Collection and sea-view gym, plus family-friendly offerings such as the “Kids Go Free” programme.

We absolutely loved Cape Sounio and would definitely recommend it to others. The resort feels spacious and beautifully spread out, giving everyone plenty of room while still feeling warm and personal. The setting is incredible, with the sunset views directly in front of the Temple of Poseidon being truly magnificent, worth the visit alone. The service was excellent throughout our stay. Every member of staff was warm, friendly and attentive, and nothing ever seemed too much trouble. They were always on hand to help whenever we needed anything. The food was delicious, particularly at the Aegean Grill, where the food and service were both fantastic. It was a lovely, relaxed setting and the staff were wonderful. Our Junior Suite with a private pool was fabulous. The pool felt genuinely private and intimate, which is exactly what you want, and made the room feel like a real retreat. We also loved the adults-only section of the beach - a fantastic place to relax. Overall, we would absolutely recommend this hotel to others looking for a beautiful retreat outside of Athens.

It is not a 5 star experience, the price is grossly over inflated and the room they stuffed us in was run down, tight, and packed with ants. When we called to address the matter, we were told they were booked to capacity......during off season.....where there were maybe 30 other guests.....ok. Keep in mind we paid a higher price a specific room and instead gave us a room which had a shower with grime and cracked tile. Just imagine, if I paid for the basic? They might have shoved us in a broom closet or the basement. We decided to grin and bear it, until we went to the buffet dinner where we were charged a whopping 70 euro per person, for a very standard/mediocre buffet and I would have swallowed that too, if they didn't also charge us separate for drinks and no friends I do not mean liquor, I mean a coke and water. It was almost laughable until I realized every other 3 to 5 star hotel we stayed at along the way, had outperformed this place and asked for significantly less. Sigh. Maybe they are better during the summer season? I won't be coming back to find out but if you have the time and money to play at guessing, you are welcome to. & to be a fair reviewer, I will say that the staff went above and beyond to make you feel welcome, excluding the persons at the front desk that refused to move our room. The view of Poseidon's temple was also stunning, it didnt keep the ants from joining us in the shower or on our bed. Sorry

We had a fantastic stay at Cape Sounio on our way in and out of Athens. We stayed in a Temple Villa as a family of four and the rooms were beautiful. The property has stunning views of the Temple of Poseidon at literally every turn. If you are lucky enough to be there for a full moon it’s an amazing experience to watch it rise over the temple. The rooms were clean, spacious and well stocked with every amenity we could need. Every staff member was attentive, friendly and helpful. They helped us arrange a special surprise birthday treat for our son’s birthday in the room on arrival and I think they were just as excited as we were to see his reaction. Truly a 5-star hotel, with welcome treat on arrival, nightly turn down service and excellent house keeping. The hotel is very kid friendly. The main pool and beach are fantastic. The breakfast spread is generous and the restaurants were generally good, although not stand out. Recommend making a reservation in advance for Yali, it’s worth trying out for the setting alone on the water. The pool water temperature in the Temple Villa is freezing. We paid to have it heated for 90Euro which I am pretty sure made no difference in the temperature and would recommend skipping that up charge if you are considering it.

I attended a 5-day business conference at Cape Sounio, and the entire experience was truly unforgettable. The energy of this location is deeply inspiring. Since antiquity, Sounio has been considered a powerful energy hub of the earth, forming the famous "Sacred Triangle" with the Parthenon and the Temple of Aphaia. You can genuinely feel that unique aura and ancient force while looking at the breathtaking views of the Temple of Poseidon. The resort perfectly balances this spiritual atmosphere with high-end luxury. The conference facilities were top-tier, and the flawless service allowed our schedule to run seamlessly. Unwinding after intense sessions while watching the sunset over the Aegean Sea created an unmatched setting for networking. It is a world-class destination that turns a standard corporate event into a unique, recharging experience.

I have been there for a business trip with foreign clients. The overall experience was amazing 😍. The staff is alone 101% worth the trip, imagine the rest. The hotel itself is great, with several restaurants, in roof top, at the beach, several bars and full service all time. Me and all the guests felt very comfortable and always treated with utmost cordiality and care. Definitely worth every single euro spent there.
