This was my first time returning to Penang after almost eight years, and I was honestly unsure where I should stay in Penang. However, the moment I arrived at this resort, I immediately knew I had made the right choice. The architecture of this property is exactly what I had imagined and hoped for — beautifully designed with a timeless colonial charm, set elegantly against the side of a small hill overlooking the sea. The entire atmosphere feels peaceful, refined, and relaxing without trying too hard. I booked a room with a jacuzzi on the balcony facing the ocean, and it truly elevated the entire experience. In fact, I enjoyed the property so much that I extended my stay immediately after checking in. The staff throughout the resort were genuinely warm, friendly, and hospitable, which made the stay even more pleasant. That said, I do believe both the resort and the team themselves would greatly benefit from more structured professional hospitality training. There is absolutely nothing wrong with their attitude or willingness to help — in fact, their friendliness is one of the resort’s strengths — but with stronger professional service training, this property could easily elevate itself to a far higher standard internationally. Another area with huge potential would be the beachfront experience. The resort management should seriously consider enhancing or integrating the beachfront area directly in front of the property. At the moment, the presence of multiple local vendor setups somewhat obstructs the otherwise beautiful sea views from the bar, pool, and common sitting areas. Improving this aspect would significantly enhance the guest experience and further elevate the exclusivity and overall positioning of the resort. In terms of dining, the existing all-day dining restaurant is pleasant, but I do think the resort could introduce more culinary experiences to complement such a beautiful setting. For example, seafood dinners, barbecue evenings, or outdoor dining concepts on the lawn overlooking the beach and sea would create an even more memorable atmosphere for guests. Overall, I genuinely enjoyed my stay here. The property has character, charm, and tremendous potential. It has now become my top choice whenever I visit Penang, and I would gladly return again instead of staying elsewhere.

I am extremely disappointed with my stay at this hotel. As a Marriott Bonvoy property, I expected a much higher standard of service, cleanliness, and professionalism. Unfortunately, this stay was filled with problems from the very first night. Upon entering the room, we found dirty hair and debris on the bed. After reporting it to the front desk, a housekeeper was sent to change the bedding. While the issue was addressed, guests should not have to encounter cleanliness issues immediately upon arrival. The most serious issue occurred later that night. An intermittent beeping noise, possibly from the smoke detector, speaker, or another device in the room, kept sounding throughout the night. The noise repeatedly woke us up, and we barely got any sleep. We came here to relax and enjoy our vacation, but instead spent the night frustrated and exhausted. When we reported the issue, the staff simply told us to contact them again if the noise continued. This was not a practical solution because the sound was intermittent rather than constant. Instead of proactively offering a room change, the hotel expected us to continue staying in the same room and repeatedly report the same issue. The next morning, we reported the problem again and played a recording of the sound for the staff. Even they acknowledged that the noise was disturbing. We were told maintenance would inspect the room and that a room change would only be considered if the issue could not be resolved. A maintenance technician later visited and said the matter would be reported to the front desk. Shortly afterward, a security officer arrived to inspect the room again, seemingly unaware that maintenance had already been there. We had to explain the situation repeatedly to different staff members, which raised serious concerns about communication between departments. Despite multiple visits, nobody provided a clear explanation or solution. The noise continued, and the hotel still did not offer to move us. It was only after I specifically requested a room change that one was finally arranged. The poor service extended beyond this issue. Calls to Guest Services often went unanswered in the evening. When we informed the front desk, we were asked whether we had pressed “0” to reach them. However, there was no indication on the room telephone that guests needed to dial “0” to contact the front desk. Even simple requests such as bottled water and slippers required multiple phone calls. After being told that housekeeping had been informed, we had to call again because the items never arrived. I would also like to raise a serious accessibility concern. The ramp leading from the lobby to the restaurant has no handrails. As a guest with a physical disability, I nearly lost my balance and injured my knee. The ramp is difficult to distinguish from the surrounding flooring and presents an unnecessary safety risk. A hotel of this standard should provide proper accessibility features. Overall, what disappointed me most was not only the room issues themselves, but also the hotel’s slow response, poor communication, and lack of urgency in resolving guest concerns. This level of service does not justify the price charged. I have retained recordings of the beeping noise and other supporting evidence from my stay. Should the hotel or Marriott wish to investigate further, I would be happy to provide them upon request. Given the significant disruption to our vacation, loss of sleep, and overall poor experience, I believe a formal explanation and appropriate compensation are warranted. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend this property.

Had a great stay, staff are friendly and approachable specially mentioned to the front of the house and during the breakfast area. There is only one feedback I would like to share, my wife requested for a fresh apple juice and was told that he don't do fresh apple juice. I then approached a Indian lady and she was so helpful and assisted to get one immediately. Well and I didn't ask on the second day cos everything was going on smoothly during the stay except on our first day of breakfast. Overall experience was good and had a memorable stay at the Lone Pine Penang! Thank you all...

A truly delightful stay at Lone Pine, Penang. The hotel has a beautiful heritage charm, complemented by a gorgeous seafront lawn and relaxing beachfront setting. The room and bathroom were exceptionally spacious, stylish, and very comfortable. The reception team provided excellent service throughout our stay, always welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful and elegant Penang getaway.

We stayed here for our friend’s birthday retreat, and it was fantastic. The room was spacious, felt really luxurious, and was incredibly comfortable. The staff were so friendly and welcoming; we especially loved the welcome drinks, the in-house dining, and the sunset bar. The sunsets here are honestly superb! I’d highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a calm, soothing retreat away from the city life.
