Nungwi Beach Resort by Turaco

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel compelled to share our experience. This resort was one of the biggest disappointments of our trip. Based on what was represented to us, we expected a high-quality beach resort. Instead, we found what was, in our opinion, a property that fell well below those expectations. The resort itself appeared poorly maintained and unclean in several areas. The food was consistently disappointing, with limited selection and poor quality. The beach, which should have been the highlight of our stay, was also a major letdown. During our visit, there was a significant amount of seaweed along the shoreline, and we found the beach to be dirty rather than inviting. We were also approached repeatedly by beach vendors while walking outside the resort’s private area, making it difficult to relax. While I understand the vendors are independent of the resort, the overall beach experience was not what we had anticipated. After investing a substantial amount of money in this vacation, we expected accommodations and amenities that matched what had been promised. Unfortunately, this resort did not deliver. Based on our experience, I would not stay here again or recommend it to travelers seeking a premium beach vacation in Zanzibar.

Let me start off by saying, the resort is ABSOLUTELY stunning, the rooms are beautiful, location was perfect for us. Breakfast options was minimal, there were only two nights where dinner was GREAT. It’s unfortunate that we arrived early hours of the morning, we sent an email when our booking was made, requesting early check -in and explaining our situation (it was told they would best assist us) Service was Pathetic. I’m pretty sure there’s new management. Asif If I’m not mistaken (General manager) is a very entitled man and does not have his guest best interest at heart, It’s unfortunate that the head of management has no people skills nor conflict resolution and it reflects throughout. We arrived and we had to sleep on the beach beds on the beach until 12pm the next day which was unfortunate but we understood. There was absolutely no hospitality, we asked if they could at least give us water and towels to cover us as this was not offered. The front of house team said the next shift of staff would arrive at 8am and around 9am we would be able to check - in, we ended up only checking in at 12pm (there’s much more to mention regarding the service but I’ll be going on forever) After explaining our experience Regina and James(managers) were the best people they truly have people skills as well as conflict resolution. Kudos to them. We were given room upgrades and two complimentary dinners, however at check-out the one dinner was charged in the bill and there was a whole back and forth. None the less it’s not about how beautiful the property is, it’s how you make people feel. Property is stunning, service is pathetic. Rest of the staff is WONDERFUL. However I would not return nor recommend. I’ve worked for Four Seasons Hotel and Resorts and one thing, I’ve learnt and I would like to leave with the Turaco management is - It doesn’t matter how beautiful the place is, people will ALWAYS remember how you made them feel. We were a family of 3 and stayed in Turaco for 6 nights in June. The stay was amazing and we loved the hotel. Location - is perfect in Nungwi and you can see beautiful sunsets in the evening. You can take a stroll in the beach, swim in the ocean and walk to nearby beaches. You can also organise activities with guys standing at the beach. They usually find you first but we tried them. They were cheap and weren’t bad. One guy called Sudi helped us with our activities and can recommend him. Rooms and pool - Rooms are big, spacious for families with kids. Nice balcony with a view. Pool was amazing and our kid enjoyed it. Food - We took Half board and loved the spread of food for breakfast and dinner. They had a mix of continental, local and even Indian dishes. Taste was delicious!! We even had our lunch in the Fisherman Grill restaurant which was also good. They even had live music or Dj nights during dinner where you can also sit outside the restaurant in the sand. Service and Amenities - very friendly staff. They have their own travel partner who can also arrange activities. They helped us catch Tuk-tuks to go to nearby places. They have a pool table, darts area, Spa, Gym, Cafe and icecream shop inside. We also felt safe in the hotel. Overall highly recommend for families and kids!!

Amazing stay, the food, the location, the staff. All way beyond expectations. As a couple you will love your stay here. The live music during on the beach is very very good. Every day was memorable and incredible. One day we will come back!

Good resort which is just on the Beach at the northernmost point of the Island. Good breakfast and dinner spread with enough vegetarian options. Pool is also clean with a pool side bar and good cocktails overall. There is a dart board and pool table in house which are good and well maintained. Washrooms are good and well maintained. Size of the bed was said to be queen sized but it is very small than it should be for a queen sized bed.
