I’ve stayed at The Gates Hotel several times over the years during the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, and the experience is consistently excellent. During SOBEWFF our days are long and intense, and the team at The Gates truly becomes an extension of our staff. Their level of care, support, and engagement makes a huge difference. Angie from sales is always responsive, accommodating, and a pleasure to work with when coordinating group stays. Amir is equally helpful and professional. Eloisa is incredibly diligent and attentive to details, making sure everything runs smoothly. And Bob deserves special recognition. He is truly the heart of the operation. Bob goes above and beyond his role to make guests feel welcomed and taken care of. His attentiveness and genuine hospitality elevate the entire experience. It’s rare to find a team this engaged and consistent. If you’re staying in Miami Beach, especially during a busy event week, this hotel and its staff will take great care of you.

The Gates Hotel is well-located on Collins Ave, the main tourist thoroughfare in South Beach. It feels like a hotel that had initially lofty goals, but ended up sort of… meh. There’s nothing really special about it. The hotel restaurant was never open, the small pool is right next to the road, and there are all of these activities listed on posters in the elevators, which gave the Gates the vibe of a college dorm rather than an upscale hotel. The rooms are fine, comfortable, unexceptional. We did have to check out one day early because the water pressure fully died for over three hours. When I called the front desk, they said “the pressure has to build back up, just give it a few minutes.” This is of course not how water pressure works, but I digress. They seemed understandably frantic at the front desk when we went to check out, seeing as we were not the only ones who checked out during the water snafu. In any case, I was kind of happy to leave.

First time at this hotel, I think it is a lot of bank for your buck. Location, price, the rooms are great, the service is outstanding. word of caution, the breakfast is fresh made so if you have a large group it may take a while, but it is great. the best at this hotel is the people. Also I forgot my wallet in the safe and when I came back they saved it for me, it had cash and cards. No issues what so ever. that goes a long ways.

I’m giving The Gates South Beach a 2.5/5 because my experience was half good, half bad. Check-in was frustrating. I booked a king suite with a balcony, but was initially given the wrong room. When I addressed it, the front desk agent, Carlos, was dismissive and acted like it was my fault, telling me to take it up with the third-party site despite my confirmation clearly showing what I booked. The hotel itself has a nice, clean aesthetic and the room was spacious, but the bathroom was a major downside. The shower was extremely small and uncomfortable, and the layout felt poorly designed (pictures attached). We were also looking forward to the advertised fragrance making class, but it didn’t seem to actually be offered. On top of that, the bartender appeared intoxicated. He asked my name and what I was drinking multiple times, even forgetting that he had already made my drink and leaving it sitting there. He was kind enough to remake it, but the lack of professionalism was disappointing. Overall, there were enjoyable aspects which were the hotel’s aesthetic and cleanliness were appreciated. But between the room issues, poor customer service, bathroom design, missing amenities (took almost an hour for me to get washcloths that housekeeping forgot to supply), and unprofessional staff, the experience was underwhelming.

My stay at the The Gates Hotel South Beach was exceptional from start to finish. The staff consistently delivered high-quality service, creating a welcoming and seamless experience throughout my visit. A special recognition goes to Pari, who truly elevated the stay. She was super responsive, attentive, and proactive in addressing every request. Her professionalism and commitment to guest satisfaction made a noticeable difference and set a high standard for service excellence. Overall, a standout experience driven by a strong team and exceptional individual performance. Highly recommended.
