I’ve stayed at The Gates Hotel several times over the years during the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, and the experience is consistently excellent. During SOBEWFF our days are long and intense, and the team at The Gates truly becomes an extension of our staff. Their level of care, support, and engagement makes a huge difference. Angie from sales is always responsive, accommodating, and a pleasure to work with when coordinating group stays. Amir is equally helpful and professional. Eloisa is incredibly diligent and attentive to details, making sure everything runs smoothly. And Bob deserves special recognition. He is truly the heart of the operation. Bob goes above and beyond his role to make guests feel welcomed and taken care of. His attentiveness and genuine hospitality elevate the entire experience. It’s rare to find a team this engaged and consistent. If you’re staying in Miami Beach, especially during a busy event week, this hotel and its staff will take great care of you.

The employees were awesome, especially Pari, who was so kind and welcoming. The pool attendants were attentive and friendly, making sure everything stayed clean and comfortable. Even the valet service was excellent — professional, quick, and courteous, which made arriving and leaving completely stress-free. The hotel has amazing artwork.

The Gates Hotel is well-located on Collins Ave, the main tourist thoroughfare in South Beach. It feels like a hotel that had initially lofty goals, but ended up sort of… meh. There’s nothing really special about it. The hotel restaurant was never open, the small pool is right next to the road, and there are all of these activities listed on posters in the elevators, which gave the Gates the vibe of a college dorm rather than an upscale hotel. The rooms are fine, comfortable, unexceptional. We did have to check out one day early because the water pressure fully died for over three hours. When I called the front desk, they said “the pressure has to build back up, just give it a few minutes.” This is of course not how water pressure works, but I digress. They seemed understandably frantic at the front desk when we went to check out, seeing as we were not the only ones who checked out during the water snafu. In any case, I was kind of happy to leave.

I strongly discourage anyone from staying here. The customer service is terrible and the hotel will not refund your incidental. The booking was paid before we got there. After arriving, we were told there was a mandatory $52 daily resort fee and a mandatory $555 hold for incidentals. We were strong armed into paying this. We had no issues checking out, we did not damage anything and cleaned the room before leaving, as always. After about 7 business days, I began calling the hotel because th $555 fee was not returned. After over 1 week of calling, I finally got through to someone who was able to look into my reservation and tell me that nothing was wrong and that because our stay overlapped with the holidays, I likely hadn’t received it yet. She did say that on her end, she can see the refund was issued, and if it doesn’t arrive within the next 1-2 business days, I should contact my bank. After a few more days, I emailed the hotel. I received a response a few days later, and the hotel stated that we were charged for a smoking fee. We don’t smoke at all. It seems like this recently happened to other guests, so BEWARE.

First time at this hotel, I think it is a lot of bank for your buck. Location, price, the rooms are great, the service is outstanding. word of caution, the breakfast is fresh made so if you have a large group it may take a while, but it is great. the best at this hotel is the people. Also I forgot my wallet in the safe and when I came back they saved it for me, it had cash and cards. No issues what so ever. that goes a long ways.
