We spent the day with a morning pedicure and a lovely lunch by the beach. The spa is beautiful and peaceful and all staff were so welcoming and attentive especially Lisa, Christina and Tamara. However I would comment the pedicure chairs could be better positioned for patrons and also their staff. I happened to wear a dress for my pedicure and thankfully I wore shorts but it definitely was not ideal seating for myself and my short legs. It would be easier for patrons and staff if patrons seats were more elevated. And that staff didn’t have to be hunched all day. It would be wise for the spa to consider changing the seating options for all. And even for my mother in law and aunt who are in their late 70s getting in and out of their chair wasn’t as easy - it would be a lot easier for those with mobility issues to walk up and step up to a seat and have their feet lower than their body when having a pedicure done.

The beach is truly stunning, but unfortunately that is where the positives end. Everything else falls well below the standards expected of a so-called 5-star hotel. The rooms are outdated, the minibar was empty upon arrival, and the level of cleanliness is simply not satisfactory. The breakfast and restaurant menu are very limited, which is surprising and disappointing for a property of this category. What was particularly frustrating, however, was the inconsistent and unprofessional handling of the smoking policy. Ashtrays are present on all balconies, and there are no visible “no smoking” signs anywhere in the hotel. Yet after three days of our stay, we were suddenly told that smoking was not allowed and were addressed in a rather unpleasant manner by the staff. We made sure not to disturb anyone and even apologized to guests who expressed concerns, especially considering that other guests continued smoking on their balconies without any issue. This inconsistency gave the impression that certain guests are treated more favorably than others, which is both unfair and disappointing. Overall, this experience did not meet expectations and significantly impacted our stay.

Coral Reef Club Restaurant Lunch at Coral Reef Club Restaurant left me questioning two things: the lack of proper vegan options and a dress-code policy that nobody seemed able to meaningfully justify. The vegan offering was extremely limited, which already felt surprisingly dated for a restaurant of this calibre (there's likely one — the Thai coconut aubergine flatbread, which was surprisingly sweet, not savoury, and literally has pomegranate SEEDS on it — you'd have to have the other dishes modified). But the stranger experience came when I was told that my sleeveless shirt was not permitted in the restaurant area. This was not gym wear or a white ribbed undershirt. It was a draped shirt paired with linen pants and leather sandals, entirely appropriate for a hot Caribbean afternoon lunch. To be clear, the waitstaff themselves were excellent throughout the interaction. Everyone I spoke to was polite, professional, and seemed to understand exactly why the situation felt unreasonable. Several employees openly acknowledged that the rule regularly creates friction with guests, including hotel guests returning from the gym who are apparently asked to return to their rooms to change their sleeveless shirts FOR BREAKFAST. The inconsistency of the policy was difficult to ignore. Women are permitted to wear sleeveless tops in the restaurant, while men are not. Sexist inconsistency in dress standards. Meanwhile, I was told I could sit on "the terrace" — roughly a metre away from the dining room, with no partion between the two — wearing the exact same outfit. The only real difference was that "the terrace" was significantly hotter under the umbrellas. If the concern is maintaining standards, then surely context and overall presentation matter more than whether a shirt has sleeves, particularly at lunchtime in a tropical climate. The only part of the interaction that felt unnecessarily combative came from Jamar Jemmott, F&B Division Manager, who seemed prepared for conflict from the outset. My impression was that he has probably had to come out and enforce this policy many times before without being able to offer any meaningful explanation for it, which is likely frustrating in itself, and perhaps says something about how impractical the policy has become and how much unnecessary friction it creates for both guests and staff. What stood out was that he gave me his full name — even spelling it out for me without my prompting — with an air that suggested complaints about the issue have become routine and ultimately inconsequential. It also gave the impression of a rigid top-down management culture, one that leaves little room for acting on the observations of the staff members who interact with guests on a daily basis and are clearly negatively affected by this nonsensical rule. From talking to staff, even their uniforms reflect the same outdated thinking. The tops of the waitresses' uniforms are made from a satiny material that sticks to the skin in the heat, especially when the restaurant is busy, while the male staff are required to wear long sleeves in a Caribbean climate. The uniforms could easily be redesigned using lighter, more breathable fabrics while still maintaining an elegant aesthetic. What should have been a relaxed lunch instead became an unnecessarily tense interaction over a rule that feels disconnected from both practicality and the realities of dining in the Caribbean. Revising the policy would likely improve the experience for guests and staff alike. Martin Boyce Barbados

This was our second visit to Coral Reef Club and it didn’t disappoint. The room was a beautiful sea view / garden room and was immaculately clean with fresh towels and iced water daily. The food is outstanding, from breakfast to lunch, late morning sorbet and beach drinks to evening dinner and cocktails. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the beach waiters are super hardworking and friendly. There is a well equipped gym and tennis coaching which we enjoyed, together with evening musicians/singers which were lovely on the evenings we dined in the hotel. The grounds are beautiful and every member of staff had a smile and hello for you throughout our stay. We cannot wait to return to one of favourite places to visit. Thank you everyone at the hotel for making our stay so special.

Resort is lovely overall. Most comfortable room with a quiet balcony albeit a bit dated. Nice quiet location but a bit of a walk to Holetown. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Housekeeping service for my room was impeccable. Although at times at the bar it took awhile to get any attention and at one point even forgot my order. Both times happened around the 5pm hour so maybe it’s during staff turnover or prep for dinner service. Rules say you cannot reserve the beach chairs but people do it anyway. By 8am there are books on almost all the chairs. Rules also say items will be removed from chairs reserved but not occupied for 2 hours. Some beach butlers will do it but some won’t. I personally witnessed a pair of chairs unoccupied and not even used at all for most of the day until about 3pm. When the couple arrived, they were attended to a lot. At another day, a butler gave a pair of chairs to an elderly couple only for it to be taken away by a different butler telling them it was already reserved. Seems obvious the beach butlers play favourites. Clientele geared more towards the elderly so if you want a slightly less older scene with more establishments around the resort then suggest going elsewhere.
