Step off the boat and into a dream. Makunudu Island is more than a destination; it’s a feeling, a hidden Maldivian gem where time slows to the rhythm of the ocean and barefoot luxury takes the spotlight. Just a scenic 45-minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport, this intimate six-acre island in the North Malé Atoll offers a true escape into paradise. With only 36 beachfront bungalows nestled beneath swaying coconut palms and surrounded by powder-white sands, you’ll feel as though the island is yours alone.

This is not the Maldives of crowded resorts or busy beaches. Makunudu Island offers something far more special: natural beauty, pure simplicity, and quiet sophistication. Spend your days diving among vibrant coral gardens, enjoying a private candlelit dinner on a secluded sandbank, or relaxing in a hammock with only the gentle sea breeze for company. Every moment is designed to soothe your senses and nourish your spirit.

Wake up to endless turquoise views, feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, and let the island’s calm rhythm wash over you. Perfect for couples, nature lovers, and those seeking true tranquility, Makunudu Island embraces an eco-friendly philosophy. Enjoy indulgent spa treatments, daily snorkeling adventures, sunset dolphin cruises, and freshly prepared seafood with Maldivian-inspired flavors at the resort’s restaurant. Every detail is carefully curated to help you reconnect with the beauty of living slowly. Makunudu Island doesn’t just offer a holiday; it creates memories that stay with you long after you return home.

Recently visited Makanoodu Island(October)and it was a wonderful experience! The island is a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life, surrounded by nature's beauty. The rooms were comfortable and well-maintained, with excellent room service - the staff cleaned our room regularly. The island's natural charm is a major highlight, with its serene atmosphere and stunning surroundings. Plus, it's conveniently located - just a 1-hour boat ride from the airport. We opted for full board and found it sufficient for our needs. The only difference with full inclusive was the inclusion of alcohol, but it wasn't a necessity for us. On the downside, the drinks we ordered were a bit disappointing - even simple drinks like pina colada didn't quite hit the mark. Their Staff(Mr.Milon) attended us at the restaurant all 4 days,he was very friendly and made our dinning experience wonderful Highly recommend Makanoodu Island for a relaxing getaway!"

We stayed here recently and had a mixed experience. Positives: The resort is only about an hour from the airport by speedboat, and transfer timings are flexible, which is really convenient. The island itself is beautiful — very natural, filled with trees, and has that calm old-Maldives vibe since it’s one of the oldest resorts. Interiors are a bit dated. We were on the all-inclusive package, which included non-motorized water sports (kayak, snorkeling gear, etc.) and activities like sunset cruising and catamaran rides. The sea was absolutely stunning — crystal clear and blue. Drinks were unlimited and good quality (though you can’t take them out of the bar, which felt a little odd). Food was okay — breakfast and lunch were buffet style, dinner was à la carte. Could use more variety, but overall decent. The restaurant host, Milon, went out of his way to make us feel welcome with his warm smile, friendly conversation, and attentive service. Thank you, Milon. The room itself was lovely, but the bathroom was disappointing. The Muslim shower was placed far from the toilet seat, so it couldn’t be reached, there was a strange smell, only one showerhead, and the tap was old and rusty. Negatives: Unfortunately, the service let us down. Our very first impression wasn’t great — the resort rep scolded us for being “late” for the boat, even though we arrived at 7:15 for a 7:30 departure. Another guest mentioned the same experience. Not the welcome you’d hope for. We were also very disappointed about being denied snorkeling equipment. We explained that we can swim and snorkel (we do it often), signed the consent form, and even said we’d stay close to shore, but were still refused saying we initially mentioned we are not “pros” at swimming. This has never happened at any other resort we’ve stayed at. At check-in, the host didn’t know we were on the all-inclusive package and started explaining full board until we corrected her. Later, we were charged for sparkling water in the minibar, even though the host told us everything except alcohol was included. When we flagged it, we were told it was on the minibar menu — but since we were told otherwise, we didn’t think to double-check. Overall:
The island is gorgeous and the location is convenient, but poor communication and disappointing service affected our stay. With better hospitality, this could be a fantastic resort, but as it stands, I wouldn’t return.

A Memorable Stay at Makunudu – Heartfelt Thanks to the Amazing Team! After exploring a few different resorts across the Maldives, Makunudu truly impressed me with its outstanding service and warm hospitality. Water Sports & Dive Center A huge shoutout to Susan and Ricardo for their incredible support and enthusiasm! Their friendliness and professionalism stood out. Susan patiently explained everything I needed to know about snorkeling and helped me prepare for the next day. Ricardo was equally kind, assisting us with our kayak ride and making it a smooth and enjoyable experience. Looking forward to seeing you both again! Guest Services Subra deserves special thanks for turning around what could have been a disappointing moment. When we found out we had to leave on a morning transfer and I’d miss snorkeling, he went the extra mile to arrange an evening departure. Thanks to him, I had the chance to enjoy the breathtaking house reef. Reception & Welcome Despite our delayed arrival and rainy weather, Sneha gave us a warm welcome and guided us to our room with genuine friendliness. Her positive attitude instantly lifted our spirits and set a high standard for the rest of our stay. Dining Experience Lasantha provided excellent service at the restaurant, always attentive and courteous. The food, prepared by the chefs, was consistently delicious. I enjoyed every meal – the variety was good, and the kottu was especially memorable. Entertainment The Boduberu team delivered an energetic and enjoyable performance. It was a lively and culturally rich experience – hats off to the team for keeping the spirit alive! A heartfelt thank you to the entire team at Makunudu for making our stay so memorable. With service like this, it’s easy to see why guests keep coming back – and I certainly will too. Keep up the fantastic work!

Recently stayed at this hotel. Very pretty, virgin, close to nature hotel. They have tried to keep the hotel as natural as possible. Sea is beautiful here. Everything is calm and quiet here. Service: Room service was overall good. People at the bar are friendly and nice. People at the RESTAURANT bluntly discriminate between Indians and AMERICANS/European/Russian people. Their overall attitude instantly changes wherever they communicate with Indians, you can’t even ignore that part. They need to know/learn guests are guests. They should not differentiate among people. Food options are pretty limited, vegetarians will hardly found any options apart from green salad and tropical fruits. Didn’t like their food either. If you can ignore those things Makunudu is good to go.
