Beautiful hotel in beatiful grounds. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had a beautiful room with plenty of space and a great view over a garden and the Atlantic. The pool was clean. Plenty of sunloungers. Directly opposite the hotel is a fantastic supermarket. Has everything you would want and a great bakery. Great selection of sandwiches and salads. I went to use the fitness room and it is a reasonably good space. Lemon water on offer, towels, AC, a TV to connect to youtube for music. My only draw backs were: - Poolside bar. It is a very small area, not very many seats at all and doesn't feel entirely welcoming. Usually at the other hotel we stay at, we sit and have lunch by the pool but there is nowhere to do this here. - Location - It is in a beautiful sea front location but it is at the bottom of a steep hill. So if you struggle with mobility, I wouldn't recommend this for you. Also, I find that the area outside of the hotel grounds smells of sewage - particularly at the top of the hill. Feels a bit dirty and I wouldn't want to eat at any of the restaurants on the road outside of the hotel for this reason. - Path to the rooms - very dark on a night with no lighting mid way. - Outside bar area for evening - the area where the entertainment and evening seating was, is again very dark and off putting. All I could think of was how many cockroaches would be running among you. - having to get a lift to the pool. There are only 2 lifts, they are tiny and slow. So you can be waiting a good 5 minutes for the lift.

A wonderful experience! We stayed as a family with our 8-year-old child and were very happy with everything. The pool was clean, and there were always free sun loungers and umbrellas available. Our room was spacious and had a beautiful ocean view. The restaurant offered a great variety of food and excellent service. We chose the breakfast and dinner option, which was very convenient. The reception team were always friendly and willing to help. Fabio is the best. We would be happy to stay here again!

We really enjoyed our stay. We had a sea view suite that was extremely clean and quiet with beautiful views. The staff was helpful with an easy check-in process. The location is in the heart of many other resorts so there were plenty of restaurants and even a grocery store and self-serve laundromat across the street. We also walked downtown to Funchal for a day from the resort. In the two afternoons we spent time at the pool, we easily got two seats with an umbrella - it wasn’t overcrowded. We really loved climbing down to access the sea from the resort!

Recently stopped at this hotel after a last minute booking. We really enjoyed our stay, location is good with about a 30-35 minute walk into Funchal or there is a bus stop nearby. Hotel itself was peaceful, rooms a good size, clean, and comfortable. We had a side sea view that was lovely looking back towards Funchal. All the hotel staff were all extremely helpful and friendly, poolside is spacious, plenty of sunbeds with the added bonus of access into the Ocean. Breakfast choice was very good, again staff ensured an enjoyable experience. Overall I could recommend this location based on our experience.

Fantastic stay at the Penstana hotel in Madeira. Reception staff were brilliant especially Fabio and Lisbeth was also an excellent staff member. Lovely room with a great view, great breakfast and nice landscaped gardens, we will be back.
