We had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Residence Maldives at Dhigurah and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment we arrived, every single member of staff was incredibly helpful, attentive, and genuinely kind — nothing was ever too much trouble. We stayed in Room 867 with a private pool, which was stunning, spacious, and beautifully maintained. It was the perfect place to relax and fully enjoy the breathtaking surroundings. A very special mention must go to Sumon, who truly made our stay unforgettable. He went out of his way to help us at every opportunity, always ensuring everything was perfect and that we felt completely looked after. His warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail made our stay extra special. Overall, the resort exceeded all our expectations. The service, accommodation, and atmosphere were exceptional, and it is staff members like Sumon who truly make this resort stand out. We leave with incredible memories and hope to return again in the future.

Our stay at The Residence Falhumaafushi was unfortunately not the experience we had hoped for. To begin with, this was not actually the resort we had originally chosen. We had booked our Maldives holiday through a travel company and felt strongly pushed toward this property. Later, we realised that the resort is extremely remote — nearly 500 km from Malé — and requires an additional domestic flight of about an hour after reaching Malé Airport. For travellers coming from far away, this makes the journey very long and complicated. Because of repeated delays in the domestic flight connection, we lost an entire day of our stay. Considering that we had booked an overwater villa costing upwards of $1,800 per night, losing a full day was extremely disappointing. What made the experience worse was the arrival. We were supposed to reach the resort around 3 PM but due to delays we arrived close to midnight after an exhausting journey. Unfortunately, no one checked in on us that night to see if we needed food or assistance. After 33 hours of travel, we ended up going to bed hungry, which was not the welcome we expected from a luxury resort. When we raised the issue, the resort mentioned that we had been upgraded to a two-bedroom villa as compensation. However, this did not feel meaningful for two people, especially since we arrived so late and had already lost a full day of our stay. We didn’t even use the second bedroom. To be fair, the island itself is beautiful, the villas are lovely, and the staff are generally warm and helpful. However, the management and overall guest handling left a lot to be desired, and the food quality did not consistently meet five-star expectations. My biggest advice to travellers — particularly those coming from far-off places like Australia, the US, Africa, or the Pacific — is to carefully consider the logistics before booking this resort. The long domestic transfer from Malé can result in significant delays, which may cost you valuable time and money. The Maldives has many incredible resorts that are reachable by speedboat or seaplane within 30–40 minutes of Malé, which may provide a far smoother travel experience. Sadly, while the location is beautiful, our overall experience did not live up to the expectations of a luxury Maldives holiday.

Positives Super friendly staff. From housekeeping to bartenders, they were all exceptional. Some of the names I remember are Pinky (housekeeper), Hasan, Rabina, Ishan, and Jaavid (waiters). Variety in food: dining rooms and restaurants on both islands, and a different themed buffet for dinner at Dhigurah every evening. Two islands connected by a bridge, offering more options for food, swimming pools, and beaches. Cycling between the two islands made the experience even more fun. Crystal-clear water: we had an overwater pool villa and saw baby sharks, turtles, and stingrays. Large rooms and decent-sized private pools. Sunset and sunrise yoga – a great experience. Canoe/kayak, especially the glass-bottom one (they charge $15 + VAT, but it is worth it). Average The food: not the best quality of products, especially at the buffet. The Long Island was our favorite (great risotto and lamb), followed closely by Falhuma (the lentil soup and amaranth were the highlights), with Li Bai being our least favorite. There were differences between the two islands, even when it came to the same dishes. For example, the pancakes at the Faalumafushi dining room were not that good, but the recipe was much better at Dhigurah. However, the French toast and crepes at Falhuma were amazing, and they had Nutella, unlike the other dining room, where it was more like a chocolate sauce. The pillows and mattress were not very comfortable. Downsides The island is far from Male, and the domestic flights can be quite inconvenient. We arrived in Male at 11 AM, and our flight to Kooddoo was at 4 PM. We got to our room at 7 PM, completely exhausted. Alcohol is only available at the bars and restaurants, not in the room unless you pay for room service. There are time gaps between breakfast/lunch and lunch/dinner with no food options (even light snacks such as finger food), unless you pay extra — even with the all-inclusive option. Many food options at the restaurants required an additional charge. I did not expect that at an expensive, all-inclusive 5-star hotel. I’m not referring to truffle or lobster, but even some desserts or fresh burrata came at an extra cost. For coffee lovers, I have bad news. They use jugs instead of making coffee fresh when you order. Proper espresso machines at the breakfast areas would be very useful. The Wi-Fi is terribly weak. My Nomad eSIM saved me. The spa prices are insanely high. It is run by Clarins, but they still don’t make sense to me. The shampoo and conditioner need to be changed. Thankfully, I had my own. Summary: Did I have an amazing time at The Residence? Absolutely! Maybe the best holiday of my life — but there is definitely room for improvement.

We had an excellent 8 night stay. The room was comfortable and very clean, the island itself (alongside Dhigurah) is beautiful with incredible starry sky and house reef. All facilities were clean and food was consistently excellent, as were the cocktails and soft drinks. We always received great, attentive service: particularly, we really felt welcomed by the following and they are real assets to the residence: Ishan, Isuru and Jahed mostly at the sunset grill/beach bar, and Hasan and Jaowad at Long Island. One if not the best stay of our lives. From the beginning landing in Male until the return flight the team of the residence was there along the way. We made memories and friends there. I want to highlight Ishan, Shafiqul, Afzal, Tulsi and Javid who served us many times and made our stay truly special. We would love to come again.
