Maradiva Villas Resort and Spa

We originally booked Sands Suites Resort & Spa, but upon arrival we were pleasantly upgraded to the villas at Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa. As our reservation included half board at Sands Suites, we did not dine at Maradiva and therefore cannot comment on the food quality. However, our stay in the Maradiva villas was exceptional. The resort feels like an earthly paradise, surrounded by lush greenery and complete tranquility. The villas are beautiful, offering total privacy, a private pool, and the beach is just a two-minute walk away. The resort also offers excellent facilities, including a kids’ club, a gym, and 3–4 on-site restaurants. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the entire property, even on the beach, which was a great convenience. It was a truly unique and luxurious experience, and we would happily return. Highly recommended.

I don't normally do reviews unless something has gone really well or badly wrong and in this case it was the former - we had a wonderful stay here. This is not a chain and you really got that feeling of individuality from your arrival. I've had some bad experiences communicating with staff via WhatsApp before (ahem Mandarin Marrakech) but here you were consistently connected to your butler rather than a call centre and this really worked well. The accommodation itself was stunning, we looked at all top Mauritius hotels for private beachside villas and went for this one, we weren't disappointed. The beach and the view over La Morne are also absolutely gorgeous and it also feels very private. One big thing we noticed was that the staff worked as a team, they communicated well and genuinely seemed happy to work together and at the hotel (a good number have been here from the beginning in 2005), this definitely adds to the level of service. During a long stay inevitably a couple of issues come up, but they were dealt with quickly and professionally. And overall they went absolutely above and beyond on the thoughtfulness and generosity to all our requests. Most of all the holiday was relaxing (even with 2 kids under 4) due to the environment, facilities and service. Congratulations to the team and a shout out to Vijay & Romain for the BBQ night and of course our butler Vikram. We will come back!

This place exceeded all our expectations. We booked Maradiva for the last leg of our trip in Mauritius, and it has been incredible. The service and hospitality from everyone from the very moment we stepped in has been amazing. Special shoutout to Vij, our butler, who answered every question and request rapidly, to the head of housekeeping who greeted us every morning with the warmest welcome and to the man who showed us around when we first arrived who kickstarted the warm hospitality we experienced throughout. We have had the most relaxing time. The villa itself is beautiful and done exquisitely. There are also plenty of activities included, such as wakeboarding, snorkelling, and cycling. Thank you, Maradiva. It’s been absolutely amazing.

AMAZING We had an unforgettable stay at this wonderful beachfront hotel to celebrate our honeymoon. From the very first moment, we felt truly cared for and welcomed. We loved the private pool villas and they were simply perfect: spacious, beautifully decorated, and offering complete privacy, which made our experience even more special. The hotel’s gastronomy is another one of its greatest strengths. All four restaurants offer exceptional quality. At Lantana Bar, we received outstanding service from Coco and Pravind, whose warm and professional attention made every visit a pleasure. And at the Indian restaurant Cilantro, we want to give a special mention to Chef Danish, who is truly out of this world; every dish he prepares with his amazing team is an unforgettable experience. We also thoroughly enjoyed the beach barbecue: the grilled fish and meats were delicious, and the atmosphere was simply magical. We can’t forget to thank the team at The Boathouse / Marina House, where all the water activities included in the stay take place—diving, kayaking, paddleboarding, boat trips… The staff there was exceptional and made every activity a memorable experience. I will miss them! I couldn’t say goodbye to them because my flight left very early, but I want to thank them deeply for everything. But without a doubt, the best thing about this hotel is its team. Every single member of staff goes above and beyond to make guests feel special. On our last night, I requested a small surprise for my husband to celebrate our honeymoon, and they exceeded all expectations: they prepared something beautiful and left the room looking absolutely spectacular. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making our honeymoon truly magical. We would return! 💙🏝️

Despite the promise of a luxurious, five-star escape, our recent stay at Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa was unfortunately disappointing on several fronts — especially when compared to top-tier resorts in Mauritius like the Four Seasons and Shangri-La. 🚫 Lack of Warm Welcome & Poor First Impressions From the outset, the experience lacked the kind of arrival you would expect from a high-end resort. There was no welcome drink, no refreshing towel, no personal touch — nothing to signal that this was meant to be a premium stay. Given the pricing (comparable or higher than the Four Seasons on some nights), this felt like a glaring oversight. 🧑‍💼 Butler Service: Promised, But Never Delivered Upon check-in, we were told that we would have dedicated butler service — a key part of the resort’s advertised offering. However, no one ever introduced themselves, reached out, or attempted to provide any such service. After raising the issue on Day 3 of our 5-night stay, the response was dismissive — we were told the butlers were “off that day” and that someone would follow up the next morning. That follow-up never came. No apology. No corrective action. Just silence. 🍽️ Dining Experience & Breakfast: Subpar The breakfast experience was a consistent letdown. The selection was extremely limited, orders were slow to arrive, and many guests around us seemed equally frustrated. A further issue was the orange juice, which was consistently processed, even though the staff insisted it was freshly squeezed. We also ordered the shakshuka from the breakfast menu — it turned out to be nothing more than an egg floating in a hot, spicy tomato soup. It bore little resemblance to a traditional shakshuka and was another example of the kitchen failing to meet expectations, especially at this price point. We tried the resort’s other restaurants as well, but unfortunately found the quality to be mediocre and uninspired. 🏡 Room Privacy & Intrusions: A Serious Concern While our villa itself was spacious, clean, and well-maintained, the lack of privacy significantly impacted our stay. On several occasions, other guests wandered right up to our “private” villa pool area. Most disturbingly, on one occasion, while my partner and I were in the pool, a beach staff member approached us uninvited, offering fruit skewers — a gesture that, while perhaps intended to be courteous, felt like a clear boundary violation. On our first night, a neighboring guest walked into our villa’s pool area to ask us to lower our music volume — a further sign that the villas are poorly demarcated and lack effective privacy controls. 📉 Overall Value vs. Price Paid Given the nightly rates (which matched or exceeded what we later paid at the Four Seasons), the experience at Maradiva fell well short of luxury standards. The service quality, food, and guest privacy simply didn’t reflect the premium branding or pricing. After five nights, we decided to cut our stay short and moved to the Four Seasons, where we immediately experienced the elevated level of service, hospitality, and refinement we had originally expected. ⚖️ Final Verdict: ★★☆☆☆ Room Comfort: ✅ Spacious and clean Service: ❌ Disjointed and unresponsive Dining: ❌ Below par for the category Privacy: ❌ Repeated intrusions Value for Money: ❌ Not justified at this price tier If you are looking for a true five-star experience in Mauritius, I strongly recommend considering Four Seasons or Shangri-La instead. Maradiva has the infrastructure and setting to be something special — but based on our stay, the execution, service culture, and food standards fall far below expectations.
