Looking at recent reviews I was a little concerned about my stay at the Island, however I had a great stay last week, I think there might be different expectations on what constitutes a 5 star hotel. We arrived late and the hotel had provided us with a snack in the room which was appreciated and not expected. We had a sea view room, but it was more of a side seaview but was actually more private than full sea view rooms. The room was of a good size with comfy beds - the bathroom is open plan but it seems this is normal in Greece. The choice of breakfast and dinner was good and you could always find something to eat and the staff were helpful. The pools were clean and there were always lounger spaces available, even when you arrived later in the day (3pm etc) there is also a nice beach in front of the hotel which you can view the fabulous sunsets. It’s also in a nice quiet location perfect for relaxing. We also had a great massage at the hotel spa! Overall we really enjoyed our stay and glad we weren’t put off my earlier reviews! We would visit again if we went to Crete in the future.

A wonderful, luxurious, adults-only hotel. It’s located in a great area and has a really relaxing atmosphere — stylish and upscale, yet never too crowded or overwhelming. There are several pools and plenty of beautiful spots to unwind and relax. The room was spacious, with an incredibly comfortable bed, and we also had a lovely balcony. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Food and drinks could be ordered from different areas of the hotel, and everything was of very good quality. We had an amazing holiday and would definitely recommend this hotel!

Staying at this hotel was a very confusing experience. In terms of the hotel itself, its beautiful and the location is amazing. The whole experience seems to coast off of the views though. There were a number of problems we encountered that showed a lack of care you normally expect at a 5 star hotel. A lot of these were small details that could be easily fixed. Trees growing into pathways so you cut your head on an overhanging palm leaf, signs that were missing letters, lack of signage (I took a turn into what i thought was my hallway and was in the staff quarters instead?), many items that were listed on menus I was told just werent stocked. Talking with guests and some of the staff at reception it sounds like theres a lack of management based on the vibes. I heard numerous complaints about things missing from rooms and also experienced this with being unable to get fresh towels several times and having to wander the resort to find someone. Overall the experience was good but it didnt match the price tag. I did enjoy talking to the other guests and some of the staff. I had a very nice conversation with a waiter who was very friendly, and I know the night time bartender was also very nice. I believe his name was Demetri, and he was one of the few people who was able to help us find what we needed and get help. He seemed to also be helping other staff who had questions while managing the bar and keeping up conversations. Every night we stopped down for a drink or two to chat with him after getting back from our dinner. The location is great, theres a lot of potential, but in the years my wife and I have been traveling we've found that this looks like textbook mismanagement and understaffing, a sad reality of todays world. We may be back if reviews suggest things improve.

Our first time in Crete. Had a fantastic time at the Island hotel. The staff were very friendly and provided an excellent service. Dimitri was an absolute gent and was always around to take an order of drinks. The facilities are excellent. The pools and outdoor sunbathing areas can't be faulted. George who booked us on 2 day trips to Santorini and Spinalonga was full of information and a nice guy. We will definitely come back here.

This was our second visit to The Island and it never disappoints! The hotel even remembered our first stay and left a bottle of wine in our room one day! Nice touch. The staff are so friendly and professional..big shout out to Nikos and George! We will definitely be back again soon!
