Peaceful village, beach right on the doorstep. The staff are fantastic, especially Hector. The cleaners really do a good job of the rooms and really make an effort. The food is great and the drinks are branded and great quality. Not sure I can go to a hotel with non branded drinks anymore. If you want a quiet place to holiday as a family then I cant recommend this enough.

Ask for any room but 1202, and book half-board before you arrive Most of the Zafiro Cala Mesquida earns its four stars. Our room did not. Room 1202, and I'd guess the rooms directly above and below it, looks straight onto the delivery bay of the neighbouring Viva Cala Mesquida Resort & Spa. Late at night and again early in the morning you hear trucks reversing and bottles being emptied into bins, and the glass is far louder than you'd expect. Open the curtains and the view is that loading bay, plus the roof of one of the hotel's restaurants and its air conditioning units. The photo shows it better than I can describe it. We asked to move on our first day. Reception couldn't offer another room but added a note to our booking, which I took to mean we'd be moved if something opened up. Nothing did. Everything outside the room was a different story. We spent most of our days at the heated pool, which was spotless and gets plenty of sun. We ate at every restaurant and bar except the one reserved for all-inclusive guests, and none disappointed. The buffets were generous and the desserts were worth saving room for. Small kiosks around the pool sell drinks, ice cream and light snacks, and the quality holds up there too. Cala Mesquida beach is a two-minute walk away, and two sun loungers for the whole day cost us €20. Two small supermarkets are just as close, stocked well enough for daily snacks and beach gear, fridge magnets included. The staff were welcoming and switched easily between English with us and fluent German with the many German guests, who seem to make up a large share of visitors. Mini golf was good fun. There's tennis as well, but the court books up early, so claim your hour in the morning. One practical warning. We booked self-catering, and on arrival the receptionist told us the nearest restaurant and decent-sized supermarket outside the resort are a 10-minute bus ride away in Cala Ratjada. We upgraded to half-board on the spot. Book at least half-board from the start. I'd have expected our travel agent to mention this, but that's no fault of Zafiro's. The evening entertainment is built for families, and it works. The kids around us were clearly having a great time every night. As a young couple we weren't the intended audience, and an adults-only hotel would have suited us better for nights out. Four stars. I suspect it would have been five if we'd booked half-board in advance, which might have landed us a room with a better view, and if we'd been travelling with children.

The hotel itself is lovely. The staff are all so helpful and friendly. There's plenty for kids to do during the day, and the night entertainment is good. The food is nice (but be prepared they tend to close earlier than planned which can be naughty) The hotel is very remote so there isn't much around. The beach is a short walk away and its beautiful. I would recommend this hotel but if you want more going on outside for walks maybe choose another one of of their sister hotels.

We stayed for a week & had a lovely relaxing holiday. The food & drinks available were great as were all the staff Involved. The hotel could be updated in some areas, the reception especially doesn't have a welcome feel. We felt the flooring around the pool areas was quite slippery when wet & witnessed some slips. The grounds need continued attention, staff did try but due to the trees continually shedding & leaving mess, it doesn't look good. The direct beach access is slightly misleading as the access is to the road leading to the beach. The restaurant at the beach belongs to another hotel so no option to get food or drinks on the beach without returning to the hotel. Our son is 12 so didn't have much choice from the animation team. All entertainment was aimed at families with younger children & when the evening finished at 10.30pm the bar was empty & the grounds felt quite dark. Perhaps some quiet music inside the bar until 11pm or midnight would be an option for adult quests. With some improvements this could be a fantastic hotel suited for families with younger children.

The hotel is brilliant. It is so well catered for kids - from the numerous swimming pools to the different play areas, kids entertainment and varied buffet. I think the hotel is excellent value for what it provides and it is definitely earns its 4 star standard. The rooms are ideal for families, they are spacious, have a kitchenette and ours even had 2 showers which was really helpful. The staff are excellent throughout the hotel and work so hard. The different buildings are beautiful and kept immaculate. We loved our stay (a family of 2 adults and 2 children ages 4 and 6.
