We recently enjoyed another lovely week at Sandy Lane, and once again, it did not disappoint. This was our second visit, and the experience was every bit as wonderful as the first. The service, food, and overall quality of the resort were truly second to none. The staff were warm, attentive, and incredibly welcoming, and our room was absolutely beautiful. Sandy Lane really is a special place, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be returning!

We visited Sandy Lane for the Sunday buffet as part of my birthday celebrations, and overall it was a wonderful experience. The selection and quality of food were outstanding, with an incredible variety on offer. The roast dinner was genuinely better than some I’ve had in England, and every dish we tried was beautifully prepared. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and they kindly arranged a beautiful table for my birthday, which made the occasion feel very special. The only reason I have not given five stars relates to the end of our meal. Our waitress had been exceptionally warm, friendly and helpful throughout the service, but her demeanour noticeably changed when we settled the bill. As a visitor, I feel it’s worth noting that a substantial service charge had already been added to our bill, and while we were happy to pay that, not every guest is in a position to leave an additional gratuity on top. Sandy Lane is a special occasion destination for many people who may save for a long time to enjoy the experience, and no guest should feel uncomfortable if they choose not to leave extra beyond the service charge already included. That said, the food, setting and overall atmosphere were exceptional, and the buffet is something I would happily recommend to anyone visiting Barbados!

Afternoon tea at Sandy Lane is an absolute triumph, especially for anyone navigating dietary restrictions. As someone who is gluten-free, I’ve grown used to afternoon tea being an afterthought of dry rice cakes and apologetic substitutions not here. The gluten-free selection was every bit as indulgent and beautifully presented as the classic menu, from delicate finger sandwiches on perfectly textured gluten-free bread to a stunning array of pastries that didn’t sacrifice an ounce of flavour or flakiness. It’s clear the kitchen genuinely understands gluten-free baking rather than simply avoiding wheat. The tea selection was equally impressive. Rather than the usual predictable options, we were offered a thoughtful range of herbal and wellness-focused blends jasmine fragrant, healthy, and clearly chosen with real care. Each stunning crockery pot was brewed to perfection and paired beautifully with the food, making the whole experience feel considered rather than an afterthought. Set against the backdrop of Sandy Lane’s effortless elegance, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who took the time to explain every element of the gluten-free menu, this was easily one of the best afternoon teas I’ve had allergy-friendly or otherwise. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a truly inclusive, healthy, and delicious tea experience.

We have just left Sandy Lane after an appalling Sunday Brunch. We've been going there for a number of years and that's why I felt compelled to write a review of how bad it was. We were led to our table and there was bird faeces on the back cushion of two seats which we asked the staff to replace which they reluctantly did. We quickly realised why our seats were soiled when we saw birds swarming around the tables inside and sitting on the dessert buffet munching the desserts which we were then supposed to enjoy. The birds were also constantly buzzing around the plate clearing stations and the staff occasionally flicked a hand at them but didn't seem bothered. When the issue was raised we were brushed off as if we were overly fussy idiots who should just get on with it and literally told " what can we do to stop it"..... We'll I'm no restauranter but let me provide a couple of ideas... 1. Don't leave endless plates of cleared food on trays at each station which simply attracts the birds in droves. 2. Cover the desserts with food umbrellas. I'd guess 75% of the desserts were uncovered and as you can see from the photos the birds were grateful. However having seen this going on throughout our meal there wasn't a dessert we felt safe eating.. We've been to SL many times and it's not a cheap lunch but it's supposed to offer world class charm and service.....neither were evident today. I'd have been shocked in the main square in Marrakech to have had such unhygienic practices and staff who were genuinely puzzled at our dissatisfaction . We were told nobody else complained but we saw at least two other groups complaining and asking to be reseated. My son who was hosting a family lunch asked to see the manager and was kept waiting endlessly and eventually told he was simply trying to extract a discount.. Not only is this disrespectful it's wholly inaccurate given we've stayed there and eaten there a lot before and never once complained. I've attached photos from our visit and reviewers can decide for themselves if this is us being overly pernickety and if they'd like to tuck into the dessert buffet after the cast of Alfred Hitchcock's birds have been there first....

After taking my family to Sunday lunch here every year for the past four years, I was genuinely astonished by how far standards appear to have fallen. The restaurant felt less like a five-star dining venue and more like a fully operational bird sanctuary with a buffet attached. Birds were constantly swooping through the dining area, helping themselves to food, landing on buffet stations, inspecting the dessert trolley and generally behaving as though they were valued regulars. Even more concerning were the numerous seat covers visibly covered in bird droppings, some to an extent that suggested this was not a new or isolated issue. When these obvious hygiene concerns were raised with both the duty manager and hotel management, we were effectively told that this was simply to be expected because the restaurant is on the beach. It was a breathtakingly dismissive response and one completely at odds with the standards one would expect from a property of this reputation. Having dined at many of the island’s leading restaurants during this visit, this was by far the most disappointing experience. The birds, at least, seemed delighted with the service.
