An absolutely perfect stay A beautiful place that lived up to everything we hoped for, and more. The setting is stunning, peaceful and immaculately kept you feel worlds away the moment you arrive. But what really makes the difference is the staff: always smiling, always listening, and attentive to every need. Nothing is ever a problem, everything is anticipated with genuine kindness and professionalism. A big thank you to the whole team for such a warm welcome. We’ll happily come back and recommend it without hesitation.

I initially considered giving this resort 2 stars, but on reflection, I’ve settled on 3 to give credit where it’s due. Sankara is a beautiful place, with spacious rooms, lovely staff and some thoughtful touches. However, several things need attention, and we came away genuinely disappointed. We booked a multi-destination honeymoon, with two selected by our travel agent and two stays arranged ourselves through Airbnb to help keep costs down. We hoped the travel agent’s choices would offer something a little more luxurious and feel like a treat. Unfortunately, despite its beauty, Sankara was our least favourite of the four places we stayed. The positives Our room was huge, very nice and cleaned to a high standard. The staff were lovely, and the pool area was pleasant. Although there were only seven sunbeds, we never struggled to find one in the afternoons, and three spots were particularly good for watching the sunset. I also really appreciated the guest information book, which covered the resort, local area, scooter hire and things to look out for. It was genuinely useful and a thoughtful touch. The areas that need improvement Laundry: Be sure to check the prices before using the hotel laundry. We received a note advertising 20% off, but no price list beforehand. We ended up paying 691,732 IDR (approximately £34) for a bag of washing that was smaller than one we’d had done in Uluwatu for around a third of the price. I accept that we should have checked the cost first, but for that price, I’d at least expect the clothes to come back clean and dry. Some marks remained, and some items weren’t properly dry. In hindsight, it would have been cheaper to hire a scooter from across the road for 125,000 IDR and take our washing to a local laundromat ourselves! Check the prices before handing anything over. Pool safety: The wooden decking around the pool is visibly worn and needs attention. We watched someone trip, and I very nearly did the same myself. This feels like a safety issue that should be addressed. Breakfast and service: The breakfast system was unusual compared with our other stays, requiring us to choose from set menus that weren’t particularly clear. There also seemed to be quite a few trainee staff. On several mornings, we’d place our order with one person, only for another to come over and ask us to repeat it. The staff were lovely, but the process could be more organised. Inconsistent rules: One day, we were allowed to enjoy the afternoon coffee and cake by the pool, but the next day we weren’t. The pool was quiet, and we weren’t hogging sunbeds, so the change was confusing. A little consistency would go a long way. Tours: On arrival, reception mentioned that the resort had connections with tour providers and could offer discounted excursions. We asked about the Mount Batur tour, rafting and quad biking. Each time, we were told someone would be asked, but we never actually received any answers. If tours are advertised as a benefit, I’d expect the resort to be able to provide basic information. A simple brochure listing excursions and prices would be a good start. Overall Sankara has the foundations of a really good resort. The setting is beautiful, the rooms are spacious, the staff are lovely, and there are some excellent touches. However, the worn pool decking, disorganised breakfast service, inconsistent arrangements, lack of information about tours and expensive laundry all detracted from our stay. We’d hoped this would be one of the standout luxury experiences of our honeymoon. Instead, it was our least favourite of the four places we stayed. Three stars feels fair: a beautiful resort with lovely people, but too many details needing attention to deliver the experience we’d hoped for

THE HOTEL The hotel is a bit run down. On the first day I tript on one of the floorboards broken around the pool. There was a sign for a few of the boards but it was multiple boards broken. HOTEL ROOM The room was in bad shape as well. It was our honeymoon so we choose to upgrade to a better room but we hade several issues with the plumbing in the shower. We hade to ask for help twice and the smell of sewage continued... We also kept hearing a bird at night. Because the hotel is in the jungle you expect to see birds, lizards, snakes and so on but this bird kept us up all night and it sounded like it was in our room. Finally one night we saw it going in and out of the room and called the lobby. When they came they said we hade to have the light on so the bird wouldn't come in. Once again we couldn't sleep and the staff told us there wasn't any available rooms. So we booked a new hotel three days earlier. Also one bird kept pooping on our balcony so we couldn't be out there because there was still stains left after the cleanup and the bird came back every day to poop on the balcony. FOOD Also the food was good but on our last day my husband found a metal piece in his food and the staff apologised but we got no compensation for it. My husband went 48 hours hoping that he didn't swallow any other piece. RECOMMENDATION We would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff was amazing but other than that, find another one!

Pros - a. Location is near to Ubud Center, and the hotel also offers free shuttle service to and fro b. Massive room sizes, well maintained pool and green landscape c. Good breakfast. We are vegetarians and this breakfast saved us esp. when it is difficult to get good vegetarian food in Ubud d. Courteous staff e. We were travelling with kids. So any additional requests for kids' food were serviced Cons - a. Old property. It shows up in their room condition. Dilapidated walls, poor lighting in room and washroom (we experienced this in our room, so can't generalise), no exhaust in washroom, no shaving mirror b. They provide only 4 water bottles of 330ml each per day, and can give 2 more on request. One, this qty of water is insufficient, and two, evey time we made a request for those extra 2 bottles, they first reminded us the hotel policy of limited water bottles saying that they were giving the 2 bottles as complimentary. We didn't feel good about this treatment for something as basic as water. Same is for other in-room supplies like coffee or creamer sachets. We understand that Balinese prefer black tea/ coffee, but if we prefer more milk in our coffee, we shouldn't be made to feel different about that. For a property of this reputation and tariff, it was reasonable for us to expect more. We had stayed in 2 other villas in Ubud which were not as big and expensive as this, but they definitely scored well on hospitality

Has a lovely stay at Sankara!! Beautiful property, polite and sweet staff, they explained everything in detail effortlessly. Extremely helpful to guests and made genuine heartfelt conversations as well. The views are stunning here, the breakfast is lovely, too many options to choose from and Indian breakfast is also served which made it convenient for us 🤌 since there are rice fields here, we had a gecko show up every night on the ceiling, but it was outside of the room on the glass ceiling. A bit scary, but they were kind enough to check for our safety.. overall a lovely heart warming stay ❤️
