We enjoyed our 7-night stay at Bahia Principe Grand Coba. Overall, it was a good vacation, though there were a few areas that could definitely be improved. The Good: The location is beautiful, and the beach was one of the highlights — definitely bring your snorkeling mask, as there are plenty of fish right off the shore. The pool area and entertainment were also very enjoyable. Most importantly, the staff were excellent — friendly, hardworking, and always welcoming. The Not-So-Good: The rooms are in need of an upgrade, especially the bathrooms, which feel dated. The buffet was decent, but as a vegetarian, I found the options quite limited — particularly when it came to Mexican cuisine. Food labeling was often incorrect or unclear, which made it challenging to navigate dietary restrictions. We also found that the à la carte restaurants were quite selective about what they would accommodate. As guests staying at Coba, we frequently heard “no” when asking for small extras or adjustments. Overall: We still enjoyed our stay, but we likely wouldn’t return to Coba or recommend it. If budget allows, Bahia Principe Grand Tulum or Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal may be better options, though they do come at a higher price point.

If you were here pre- Covid. Don’t bother coming back now. Location is nice sure - but Coba is not directly located on the beach. Have to walk or trolly to neighbouring resort to access beach. Unless you are completely OK with staying on the resort - you have to upgrade your bracelet. Was told it was $20 USD/day per adult and $10 USD per child. Apparently that deal only implies to when you check in. Otherwise wise they want to charge you a small fortune to upgrade. Coba beach is tiny - only one bar - ZERO Food options available on the beach - have to head back to resort to eat. Food is mediocre. Nothing to write home about. Service is OK but any extras cost money! All the “events” ie Mexican Fiesta, Foam Party- how are you charging people who already paid for an all inclusive vacation to paid again to use a pool? The only pool! Wildly disappointed in this resort. We loved it before and it was changed - NOT for the better

The chambers were a bit cold but we asked for blankets and it was more comfy and night. The sink was a bit crooked too but it’s a detail. Aside from that everything was really good with the room, we got to be really close to the lobby and main pool, and there are so many little cars to go anywhere you need. The service is absolutely amazing. We did the bike tour at the very beginning of our vacation and it was the right thing to do ! I absolutely recommend it. Antonio was in charge of it and he gave us so many tips and pertinent information. He also checked on us many times during our stay to make sure everything was going well, I really appreciated the attention he was paying to the small details. J-F also checked on us many times, I’m always impressed at how fast the entertainment team remember our names and always stop to make sure everything is good. The animation team really is amazing ! They absolutely made a difference in our stay and I’m really happy we got to enjoy our stay thanks to them. They also always try to translate everything in french to help us understand more ! We really enjoyed our stay thanks to them

Our group of 11 returned one week ago and we had an absolutely wonderful time. Family-friendly: Our group had 5 children (ages 1-7) so our primary goal was a family-friendly experience. It checked all the boxes! Water play, nightly entertainment, cookies and cotton candy in the lobby, arcade, Kids Club…all were MORE than enough to entertain our kids, no boredom! Waterpark, pool and beach: We spent a few hours daily in the waterpark/pools and it was a blast. 2 waterpark slides were closed the entire week and the waterpark was actually closed on our final day there (‘maintenance’ although not apparent). The foam party brought out the kid in everyone! Never had an issue securing pool chairs and always set up where we intended. Took the trolley to the beach one morning; small beach, able to secure chairs as well. Buffet: Bit of repetition across the buffet tables and day to day but always some new items to sample too. I was most ecstatic as my 1YO was such an amazing eater (a mother’s dream!); she happily devoured the scrambled eggs, fresh-made omelette, white fish, guacamole and pasta. Bacon is a hot ticket item that everyone queued for! À la carte restaurants: Based on reviewers’ recommendations, we booked Le Gourmet, Portofino and Mikado teppanyaki. A welcomed change from the buffet grind. Room: I had emailed in advance to request a room in villa 20 or 21 (based on reviewers’ tips) and unfortunately did not get it. Our villa 16 was a bit of a walk but no issue with our 1YO (we would sometimes bring a stroller, sometimes just carry in our arms). Also had the bad luck of a room on the 3rd floor so luggage hauling was quite an ordeal but otherwise, only a minor daily inconvenience. Also didn’t receive the 2 double beds requested so we managed on a king bed. The requested crib was delivered the next day after check-in. Room is spacious and we were comfortable. The A/C and fan makes for a very breezy slumber. Resort app: I was most impressed with how quickly amenity/service requests were filled. I requested extra towels, crib and toilet maintenance and it was very timely. Entertainment: With young kids in tow, this was my 1st resort vacation not venturing out on excursions. We enjoyed the theatre shows and live music on the terrace; the kids had a grand time dancing up a storm. There was a night market set up one night, quite pricey but nice to peruse. Our kids spent a few hours total in the Kids Club. There is a young babies room with a daycare-like setting so nice for a little play. Also joined in on a bracelet-making session and now the kids have a souvenir they created themselves. Kids Club staff are friendly and kind. Shops: We rode the trolley to the hacienda twice; quite dead in the afternoon. Essentially the same souvenirs in each shop, majority without price tags so that you would be ‘priced’ on sight. Tried some haggling and a few of us purchased some small trinkets. Also bought some items from the artisan shop in the resort lobby. Service: Staff are cheerful, friendly and attentive in tending to our needs. Please remember to tip if you are happy with the service; staff work hard and sincerely appreciate it. I easily requested the front desk to provide change for my $50-$100 US bills. Resort grounds: Meticulously maintained, easy to navigate with signage and maps. We never used the trolley to get around despite having 5 young kids. Surprise plusses: Terrified of mosquito bites and wanting to protect our 1YO especially, we packed ample repellent and even a stroller mosquito net and shockingly didn’t need to use it at all. I was the only one in my family to sustain 1 bite…although results may vary as my sister’s family were quite feasted on. Another plus was the gorgeous stars at night! My husband had the Stellarium app (download it!) that instantly identifies the stars, planets and constellations - a wondrous memory seared in my brain. We made incredible lifetime core memories here. It was so fun, safe, relaxing, restful and restorative and I would highly recommend it!

We had a wonderful stay at Bahía Príncipe Coba. The food was very good, the staff throughout the resort were friendly and helpful, and overall we truly enjoyed our vacation. The only small drawback was check-in, which took close to 1.5 hours even though there were only a few families ahead of us. However, I feel it’s important to share a serious concern regarding the jewelry store located on site. My parents purchased a ring for me as a very special 50th birthday gift. Within just 9 days, a stone fell out. When I contacted the store about the “lifetime warranty” that was clearly part of the sales pitch, I was told I would need to return to Mexico in order to have it repaired. This requirement was never explained at the time of purchase. A warranty that requires international travel to use is not practical for vacation guests. The quality of the ring did not reflect the price paid, and the warranty support does not match what was presented during the sale. I would strongly caution other guests about purchasing jewelry from this store. That said, the resort itself was beautiful, the staff were fantastic, and we would absolutely return to Coba in the future.
