I have just returned from a wonderful week at the Intercontinental Malta. Our room was simply stunning with gorgeous views as you would expect on the 17th floor. The room was well appointed and everything was of a high quality. We were kept well stocked with water the entire trip as well as toiletries. Without a doubt the hotel experience was made more special by having access to the fabulous club lounge and also staying in a suite which gave us access to the Skybar. The club lounge was very elegant and a calm space to spend time in. The food was also excellent in here and the breakfast was a real highlight being able to sit on the terrace and eat al fresco. The service was second to none in here with everyone being attentive and welcoming. Njambi and Kumar stood out in particular for their level of attention to detail and made our time in the club lounge even more special. For anyone looking at staying at the hotel I would implore you to book a club room as this will really elevate your experience. Overall, the staff were all friendly and offered a high level of service, something which undoubtedly contributed to our experience too. I must also mention one of the doormen, Zion, who was always happy to help including when we asked what Kinnie was and also with helping us to sort out the location for our bolt to pick us up. I can’t wait to return again to the Intercontinental Malta.

I have very mixed feelings about this hotel. After staying at another 5-star hotel during my first days in Malta, I was quite disappointed. This place is simply not a real 5-star hotel. Everything feels old and dated. The room was advertised as 40 m², but it definitely wasn’t, it was very small. After speaking with the manager, they did move us to another room that looked more like the pictures and was indeed larger, which I appreciated. We had access to the Opal Lounge, but it wasn’t anything special. Honestly, the breakfast I had at a 2-star hotel in Spain this summer was much better. On the positive side, the staff were very friendly and attentive, and the concierge gave us some nice tour recommendations. The gym, as I understood, is a public gym, which is fine, but the entrance is through the indoor pool area a bit strange. If you’re relaxing by the pool, people constantly walk past to get to the gym, which ruins the atmosphere. Overall, I wouldn’t really recommend this hotel. The location is fine, but there are at least ten other hotels nearby that are much cheaper and probably offer a better experience. Also nowhere near the bed to charge your phone.

Room was nice with courtyard balcony, but loud. Service was amazing, especially the … well all of them. Concierge was great at setting me up with a scooter and places to get a drink. Skip the Negroni at the bar though; no match for Entonces in Marbella. Location was walking to beach and many restaurants, and a few minutes from Valletta, Sliema, and even Birgu. Use their taxis (M5, Mercedes, etc) for 20€, or use Bolt. No matter. Breakfast was international in scope and wonderful. Room service was prompt. Excellent overall and would stay again.

We just stayed at the IHG Intercontinental Hotel in Malta. This is our second stay in St Julians. The location is awesome as we could walk nearly everywhere. More important than IHG as a stand alone hotel is the concierge with its amenities both public and private are the magnificent three; James, Christopher and Malcolm. From 9:30AM till 10PM the magnificent three was like having three Mr Roark's from fantasy at my disposal. We have experienced others, yet these three worked in coordination with each other and the rest of the island from Malta to Gozo. Literally, anything we needed was quickly responded with our request and even upgraded opportunities we had never thought about. The IHG concierge was like having three brothers I never knew I had that wanted to ensure I had the very best accomodations and experiences for my time. The front desk people in charge Tarek and Benjiman are amazing. Room service to food service to the bellman Dolmo who never stops smiling and Dzolt who stands ready at all times. This will be the place we will have all family and friends stay in Malta when visiting us. They are dog friendly too. Interestly enough the 7th floor has a large garden area that worked out amazing for this as a safe place for Krista to walk the dog as I could watch from the balcony. You can stay others place in Malta, but when looking for top security, peace of mind, accessibility to everything and a staff that makes you feel like royalty, this is my place.

My husband and I stayed one night at the InterContinental Malta because we wanted to extend our time at the independent pool, and this was the only hotel we found with late pool and gym access on a rainy December day. We appreciated having this option. Our experience, however, was mixed. During the afternoon at the pool, one family with children created a level of activity that made it difficult for other guests to enjoy the space. The children were repeatedly jumping into the water very close to other swimmers, splashing people without much awareness, and at one point even joking that they were “scaring other guests away.” This was not a single moment but something that continued for quite some time. I fully understand that children are energetic at the pool, and other families present used the space respectfully, but this particular group dominated the area in a way that changed the atmosphere for everyone else. What made it more challenging was that no staff member stepped in to guide the behaviour, which could have helped maintain a comfortable balance for all guests. I later learned the pool is managed by another entity, but from a guest perspective it still forms part of the hotel experience. Later in the evening, after leaving the pool, I shared this feedback with reception. It was received very kindly, and we were offered a late checkout and drinks, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, during checkout the next day, the staff member managing our bill dismissed my concerns as simply “pool echo,” which made me feel that the issue was not really understood. In that moment, I felt as if I was being seen as the problem rather than someone offering constructive feedback. The shift manager then approached me to apologise. She had not heard the earlier conversation with the staff member who handled my bill, but she wanted to acknowledge my experience and later even followed up via WhatsApp, which I appreciate. Despite her effort, the overall situation still left me feeling uncomfortable and not fully heard. On a positive note, breakfast was excellent with a wide and tasty selection. The hotel itself does show signs of age, but the food and morning service were very good. Overall, our stay had good elements, but also areas where the experience could be improved. With more attentive management of shared spaces and more consistent communication between staff members, the stay could be much stronger.
