This review is long overdue, as we visited Shangri-La Hambantota last December, but the wonderful memories of our stay have stayed with us ever since! We had an absolutely amazing experience at the resort. The fantastic amenities, beautiful surroundings, and, most importantly, the incredible staff made our family holiday truly unforgettable. The level of hospitality and care we received went above and beyond our expectations. A special thank you to Chefs SB Rathathnayake, Dinesh, Kolitha, and Hasitha, who took such wonderful care of our son, who has a severe egg allergy. They went out of their way to ensure he was always served special meals prepared without egg. As parents, this gave us tremendous peace of mind and allowed us to enjoy our holiday knowing that his dietary needs were being taken seriously. Their thoughtfulness, attention to detail, and genuine care meant the world to us. Thank you for going the extra mile! We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Umayangana, Chathurya, Damith, Akila, Ashoka, and all the other wonderful team members whose names I unfortunately couldn't write down. Everyone was exceptionally friendly, courteous, welcoming, and always willing to help with a genuine smile. Your warmth and hospitality made us feel so welcome throughout our stay. We initially booked 7 nights, but loved the experience so much that we returned for another 5 nights! I think that alone says a lot about how much we enjoyed our time at the resort. From the excellent facilities and activities to the outstanding service, everything made our stay special. I would highly recommend Shangri-La Hambantota to anyone visiting Sri Lanka. While the resort itself is beautiful and offers amazing amenities, it is the people who truly make it exceptional. The genuine care and hospitality shown by the staff made all the difference to our family's experience. A huge thank you to the entire team for making our holiday so memorable! Mixed Experience for a Corporate Stay. Disappointed about buffet varietys. We recently stayed at Shangri-La for a company event with a group of over 200 guests. Overall, the experience had its highlights, but there were several key areas where expectations were not fully met. Arrival & Check-in Upon arrival, we received a pleasant welcome. However, the hotel struggled to manage the crowd for the welcome drinks and wet towels, leaving many without them. Rooms & Amenities The luggage handling and support service were efficient and smooth. While the rooms were neatly arranged, they lacked the luxury feel one would expect from a hotel of this tier. Additionally, we noticed drainage issues in the washroom where water accumulated, and the ventilation/blower system didn't seem effective as the washroom stayed wet overnight. Facilities The outdoor facilities—including the pool area, gardens, and the golf ground—were exceptionally well-maintained. Food & Dining The food quality and taste were good, but the main buffet was a major disappointment due to the extremely limited variety. The dessert corner was equally disappointing, with essentially the same dessert repeated across the spread. For a star-class hotel catering to a corporate group of 200+ people, this lack of variety is unacceptable, and the management should definitely look into it. Service Special credit goes to the staff, who were polite, attentive, and provided great service throughout our stay. Verdict Good service and great grounds, but the lack of food variety and minor room maintenance issues really let down what could have been a premium experience.

We recently stayed at Shangri-La Hambantota for one night Overall, it was a pleasant stay, with a beautiful property and excellent facilities, but a few aspects fell short of what we expected from a five-star resort. The suite was spacious, beautifully designed and very comfortable. The resort itself is impressive, with beautiful gardens, a golf course, a lovely beach and many activities and facilities to enjoy. However, the resort was quite crowded during our stay, seemingly due to several corporate groups. This was particularly noticeable at Bojunhala during dinner. While the buffet had a good variety of food, the restaurant was extremely busy and noisy, and at times felt more like a busy food court than a relaxed five-star dining experience. This unfortunately took away from what should have been a special evening. We were also a little disappointed with the in-room amenities. As suite guests, we expected a greater level of attention to detail and a few more personal touches. For example, only bath towels were provided, with no face towels or smaller towels, which was surprising for a property of this standard. Of course, we could have called housekeeping to request them, but the point is not whether these items could have been provided upon request. Rather, it is about the attention to detail and anticipation of guests' needs that one would reasonably expect from a luxury property, particularly when staying in a suite. The service was generally pleasant, but we felt there was an opportunity for it to be more personalized and attentive, particularly for suite guests. At this level, it is often the small details and personal touches that make a luxury stay truly memorable. That said, we genuinely enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, beach, gardens and the suite itself. With a quieter dining environment and a little more attention to detail and personalized service, the overall experience could be significantly better. A beautiful resort with excellent facilities, but unfortunately the experience didn't quite reach the level of quiet, personalized luxury we were hoping for.

We had 2 lovely nights here and I wish I could give this place 10 stars for the amenities, cleanliness, the safety precautions and the customer care. Its one of the best resort hotels I have been to in Sri Lanka, very kid/family friendly. Food was top notch with a special buffet for kids. The only downside is its super far to travel from Colombo, especially the way back is strenuous, so get ready for a long journey with moody/maxed out kids. Such a wholesome experience.

My stay at Shangri-La Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa was overall a calm and enjoyable experience, with several highlights that made the visit memorable. The triple room was notably spacious, offering a comfortable layout with an eye-catching interior design that immediately created a relaxing atmosphere. The room’s ambiance and presentation added a touch of luxury that enhanced the overall stay. The outdoor pools were well maintained, with the main pool standing out due to its stunning view. It is an ideal spot to unwind, especially in the evening, as it provides a perfect vantage point to watch the sunset over the beach—one of the most memorable aspects of the resort. Dining at the resort was also a pleasant experience. The food was delicious, with a variety of options available, and the dining areas were well organized. The staff deserve special mention for their professionalism and attentiveness, ensuring guests are handled in a comfortable and welcoming manner throughout their stay. The golf course was well maintained and appealing, particularly for golf enthusiasts. In addition to golf, the resort offers a range of recreational activities such as 8-ball pool and table tennis. For rugby enthusiasts, the sports and recreational team is readily available to provide equipment like rugby balls, allowing guests to fully enjoy their leisure time on the premises. While certain areas of the property appeared slightly under maintained, it did not significantly detract from the overall experience. The resort still provides a peaceful and pleasant environment, making it a suitable destination for both local and international tourists seeking a relaxing getaway.
