I had already been here four years ago and I even spent one night on the island at that time. It was an incredible experience, and coming back confirmed how unique and special this place really is. Pongwe Island Lodge is truly an atypical destination, the kind of place you remember for a long time. Access depends on the tide, just like at other iconic spots in Zanzibar. At low tide you can reach it by foot, and at high tide a small boat takes you across, which already makes the arrival part of the experience. Whether for lunch, dinner, or even to stay one or two nights, it is absolutely worth it. One night is already enough to fully enjoy the magic of the place. The service is very welcoming, with warm smiles and staff who really take care of every detail. The quality of the food is excellent, very tasty and well prepared, which adds even more to the overall experience. The setting is simply incredible, with a panoramic view over the ocean and this small piece of island standing alone on the water. It feels like a little world apart, peaceful and unique. It is an experience I recommend one hundred percent to anyone visiting Zanzibar. A truly unforgettable place.

We stayed at Island Pongwe Lodge for only two days, but we truly wish we could have stayed much longer. Our room was absolutely beautiful, with a stunning view of the ocean that made every moment feel magical. The entire place is peaceful, serene, and even more breathtaking in person than any picture could ever capture. The staff were amazing throughout our stay—always happy to help, always warm, and always ready to answer any questions we had. A special thank you to Rafael and Michela, who were super helpful via email even before our stay and made everything feel smooth and welcoming from the very beginning. They continued to be fantastic in person, making our experience feel even more personal and memorable. We visited for my birthday, and they organised the most romantic meal for us. It was far beyond anything I expected and made the celebration incredibly special. The food during our stay was consistently delicious, and I also really loved that they support local businesses by using locally made soaps and products—such a thoughtful touch that reflects the heart of the lodge. Another lovely surprise was the presence of the island’s dog and cats. They were so cute, friendly, and calm—such a pleasant and heartwarming addition that made the island feel even more special and homely. Island Pongwe Lodge is a place that stays with you, and we can’t wait for the day we get to return. Highly recommended.

This time we stopped just for lunch, but the experience was just as magical as we remembered. The vibe and atmosphere are simply perfect, peaceful, beautiful, and truly unique. It really feels like a hidden paradise in the middle of the ocean. What made our visit even more special was JUMA, who took care of us once again. He is incredibly kind, professional, and attentive. His warm smile and genuine personality made us feel welcomed and looked after the whole time. Service like this makes all the difference. I highly recommend visiting this lovely little island. Highly recommend this place. We stayed there for lunch and a couple drinks - everything was excellent. The personnel is very kind and willing to help with everything; I should especially notice our waiter Juma - he was very attentive and helpful. The cuisine was very interesting and exotic, but great! I wish we stayed here for several days, since the view is absolutely amazing.
