Our family stayed at the Barceló Maya Colonial for two weeks, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. The hotel and grounds were incredibly clean and well maintained, the food was consistently great with lots of variety, and the pools and beach were beautiful and perfect for families. The biggest standout for us, traveling with our two kids (ages 6 and 4), was the incredible Barcy's Kids Club at the Maya Colonial. The crafts, activities, and daily programming were amazing, and the instructors were truly exceptional. Our kids rushed to check the schedule each day and anxiously waited for the gates to open every morning! A very special thank you to Susana Ovando, Zaira Huitzil, and Sara Martinez for making our kids’ vacation and overall experience absolutely exceptional. Their warmth, energy, and care made a lasting impression on our family. Our kids are already asking when they can come back to see you again and we will absolutely be returning. We HIGHLY recommend this resort, especially for families.

The service has been wonderful. The resort is very large and full of fun activities. The food is varied and incredible. The recreation staff motivate you to move your body! The ocean and pools are inviting. We have seen sea turtles and fish, as well as spider monkeys and coati and iguanas. Great entertainment in the evening shows. Great bar/ pool servers. Love it here!

We stayed at Barceló Maya Colonial in Riviera Maya with a group of 9 family members. The resort itself is beautiful, the pools are great, and the beach area is very nice. However, we experienced an unpleasant situation that significantly affected our vacation. One evening, while my wife, my 6-year-old son, and I were swimming, my sister accidentally took all of our belongings (phone, towels, and our room key cards) to the buffet without informing us. When we returned, it was already evening, my son was cold, and we could not enter our room. I went to the buffet to quickly find my sister and retrieve the key card, but I was refused entry because I was barefoot. I explained the situation multiple times and asked to speak to a manager. The staff member stated she was the manager and continued to refuse entry. After a long discussion, she finally mentioned that I could go to reception to request a replacement key card. I had to run to reception, wait in line, and complete the process, which took considerable time. We pay for a vacation to relax and enjoy a good experience. Unfortunately, this situation unnecessarily created stress and damaged our mood instead of providing support and a quick solution. I understand that rules exist, but in situations involving a young child and urgent circumstances, staff should show more flexibility and empathy. I hope management reviews this matter to improve guest experience in the future.

Just returned from a wonderful vacation at the Barcelo. Food was plentiful and quite a variety. Depending on how many days you are there will depend on how many a la carte restaurants you can book. Had no trouble getting chairs for a day on the beach. Room was clean and in great proximity to the beach and pool. Grounds are well kept and staff is always walking the beach to pickup peoples cups that they leave lying around. I read a review about someone being reprimanded for taking food from the buffet. Never had an issue when we took a banana and croissant to take on an early morning excursion. Shows were great. Really enjoyed them. If you are looking for a fun, relatively quiet location, book here. We walked over to the Caribe. It is loud. So if you are looking for more of a party atmosphere, go there. Won't hesitate to book the Colonial again.

From the moment we sat down, she was warm, friendly, and made us feel so genuinely taken care of. Her energy was contagious, her service was flawless, and she created such a welcoming atmosphere that we looked forward to seeing her every single day. She didn’t just make great drinks — she made us feel like friends. Denaly has that rare gift of making guests feel relaxed, valued, and completely at home. It’s people like her who elevate a vacation from great to exceptional. Barceló Maya is incredibly lucky to have Denaly Trejo. She is a standout and a huge reason we will be back.
