Every interaction was filled with kindness, attention to detail, and a sincere desire to make sure we felt welcomed and cared for. Really wanted to enjoy the trip but it was hard due to the very bad smells coming through the plumbing and pipes, vents and the bathrooms Having to hold your breath in the restaurants and walkways, bathrooms etc. to try to not to breathe in the bad smells was certainly not on my bingo card. In talking with other guests, many other guests were bothered by it too. As we would pass people they would comment on it. If you look in past reviews many many people have commented on this. So just want people to be aware to be prepared to encounter bad smells if you come. Also, the food at the restaurants is excellent and the waiters are great. Spumante has great food and so does the French restaurant. The downside to night time dinner dining is that the wait times for the 3 nice restaurants for us was always around 1.5 hours to get seated. They won’t give you timing they’ll say “an hour” and then you check in after an hour and each time it would be another 45 mins. I think it would be better to just start being honest and tell people 2 hours (when that’s the case) so that they can plan to go eat elsewhere.

I would have rated this resort as a decent experience overall, if not for the pool culture, which completely ruined our trip. On one occasion, we woke up early to reserve pool chairs. After spending time actively swimming in the pool, we returned to find our towels and sunscreen thrown on the ground next to the chairs. The people now sitting there told us that the pool attendant had moved our belongings and allowed them to take the seats. The following day, the same thing happened again, except this time, we watched it happen. The pool attendant, Aaron, undid our towel clips, removed our towels, and threw them onto a nearby table, then gave our chairs to other guests while we were in the pool. When I approached him about it, his response was, “You haven’t sat in them in two hours” Of course we hadn’t, we were using the pool, which is exactly what it’s meant for. The complete lack of respect for our personal belongings was astronomical. I have never stayed at a resort where staff felt entitled to throw guests’ items on the ground or treat them with such disregard. At this point, I genuinely had to ask: Are the only two options at this resort to either sit in a chair or swim? Because apparently enjoying the pool and then returning to your chairs afterward is not supported here. Due to the blatant disrespect and poor pool management, we will not be returning.

This was my second time staying at a Breathless property, and while the resort itself is beautiful, there were a few things worth noting. One thing I noticed is that if you don’t specifically ask for premium liquor, your drinks may be made with off-brand alcohol. I’m not sure if this applies to all Breathless resorts, but I recommend clearly stating the brand you want when ordering. I also observed that tipping seemed to affect the level of service with some bartenders and staff. Although gratuities are advertised as included in the upfront price, service felt noticeably different if a tip wasn’t given immediately. This was similar with housekeeping—our room was exceptionally well-maintained the first morning (even our shoes were neatly lined up), but on the following days, without a tip left, the upkeep was not as thorough. That said, there were staff members who were consistently kind and professional regardless—especially the women at The Nook and the staff assisting guests on the beach. The food was good overall, though it became somewhat repetitive over a multi-day stay. As for the beach, it wasn’t what I expected for an oceanfront property. The water on this side of Cancun was darker and rocky and not ideal for swimming. If you’re looking for the classic turquoise, swimmable water (especially in December), I’d recommend staying on the other side of Cancun. I was also disappointed with the karaoke entertainment. The host frequently sang over guests while they were performing and seemed to make the experience more about himself rather than focusing on the guests. Lastly, be cautious of the VIP tour representatives in the lobby. When we asked for help arranging a taxi to a mall, we were instead guided into a tourist excursion that turned out to be a complete tourist trap and took up most of our day—very different from what we were actually looking for. Overall, I did enjoy my stay and found the property beautiful, but based on these experiences, I would likely explore other options on my next trip to Cancun.

I enjoyed my experience at this resort. The staff is friendly, the food was good, and I appreciated the amenities. One employee in particular, Roger, made the stay even better. He helped me and my group out near the pool. He went above and beyond to make sure my cousin enjoyed her birthday. He had excellent service and fun personality. Make sure you look/ask for him if you visit!
