Have returned after a 4 night stay with my mum and daughter. The hotel is very nice when you walk in and the room was clean. We would have preferred a room with 3 beds, as one of us had to use the pull out sofa bed. Which wasn't that comfortable. They was also an issue with ants, which were on the floor. The food we can not fault, ample, tasty and great choice each day. The drinks were plentiful in choice also. The hotel was largely made up of large group bookings of teenagers. And on a whole was not too much of an issue. The odd nights when they would come in very loudly. I did see the gent on reception tell them off when they were slamming doors. The location is very good, although we didn't use the sister hotels. The option was there. The staff were friendly and helpful.

For a 5 start hotel I expected better but the room is very outdated and smells weird. Upon arrival staff could not explain why another lady had been charged 60 euro to her card for towel hire. When the lady questioned the staff all the lady got back was an eye roll. This was before I even checked in. Another man had just checked in and was coming to ask for a different room as his smelled funny and no view of anything from his room. Food not bad but again I expected better for a 5 star. Entertainment was not great and often she was sat in the corner on her phone, Same with the lifeguard. Honestly I would not come back to this hotel as if I'm paying 5 star I want a five star or at the very least a 4. This was more like a 3. I would rule our any other MGM hotels though as others had said to me they had no complaints from the other hotels. This one just need taking down on stars or upgrading.

My personal hotel rating: around 3 stars I’ll start by saying that this is based entirely on my personal experience during my stay. The hotel advertises itself as a 5-star property, but honestly, I found it quite far from what I would personally expect from a 5-star hotel. The property has plenty of space and some good aspects, but overall, it feels very dated and more suited to young families and retirees than couples looking for a modern, relaxing holiday. 🏨 Hotel & Ambience The biggest issue for me was how dated everything felt with Poor lightings. The rooms are actually very spacious, which is a positive. The layout is more like an apartment-style hotel, with plenty of room to move around. However, the furniture, fittings and overall décor are noticeably old and could really use an update. The bathroom/toilet is particularly dated and feels like it hasn't had a proper modernisation in a very long time. If you're travelling as a couple, don't necessarily expect a proper double bed. We were given two single beds pushed together, but there was a surprisingly large gap between them. So instead of having a romantic couple's bed, you essentially end up sleeping separately. 😂 The sofa bed was also extremely old and very hard, so I wouldn't want to sleep on it for an extended period. The hotel atmosphere also felt very much geared towards families with young children and retirees, and it could be quite rowdy at times, with very drunk guests hoarding alcohol as though they were worried the all-inclusive drinks would run out. If you're a couple looking for a more modern, romantic or sophisticated resort atmosphere, this may not be the vibe you're expecting. Another issue was the safe. Ours wasn't working, and it was the very old-fashioned key-operated type of safe, which honestly felt like something from another era. The hotel is a 10 minutes walk to the nearest beach. Since this is a chain hotel, you are given access to the gym & sauna to their sister hotel beside them. 🌍 A Note About the Atmosphere One other thing I noticed during my stay was that, as an Asian traveller, I occasionally received some strange looks from other guests. It did make things slightly uncomfortable at times, although I'm quite used to travelling and experiencing different reactions, so personally it didn't bother me too much. I just smiled back at them. 😅😂 Obviously, this is my individual experience and not something I can generalise to every guest or every stay. 📝 Final Thoughts There are definitely positives: the rooms are spacious, the buffet is consistently replenished, the staff are attentive, and the hotel provides the typical all-inclusive experience. But for me, the overall property feels very dated, and the experience doesn't live up to what I would personally expect from a hotel marketed as 5-star. I'd say this hotel is much more suited to families with young children and retirees who are looking for an all-inclusive holiday and aren't particularly concerned about modern décor or luxury finishes. For a couple looking for a modern, comfortable and romantic resort experience, I personally found it disappointing. Overall stay: 6/10
My personal assessment of the hotel standard: around 2-3 stars Would I personally consider it a 5-star experience? No.

Now that I’ve left Muthu Forte da Oura, I wanted to share my final thoughts. Having stayed at many genuine 4- and 5-star all-inclusive resorts, I found the gap between the hotel’s marketing and reality very disappointing. The “à la carte” restaurants are not what you would normally expect. The food feels mass-produced, choices are very limited, portions can be restrictive, and restaurants are not open every day. Service was inconsistent, with some staff displaying poor attitudes and repeatedly blaming staff shortages. We were a group of 11 and had to argue with reception just to sit together. Thankfully, the Muthu Hotels Portugal ambassador happened to be present, heard what was happening and intervened. There were also not enough sunbeds, with guests lying on the grass, no concierge due to “lack of staff”, inconsistent housekeeping, and after 11pm drinks were only available at the disco at Muthu Gardens, around 400m away. Overall, this did not feel like a genuine 5-star experience. In my opinion, the marketing significantly exceeds the reality. I would not return.

Hotel is great, once you get your head around being across 3 close locations. Rooms were really nice, Food was good, enjoyed breakfast, not tried lunch and the Mexican restaurant is the best. Amir is great behind the bar, suggested a cocktail when I asked for a coconut rum and my whole family loved it. The 'Amir Special' needs to be added to the cocktail menu for sure!! :-) Good value for money and its in a great location
