Beautiful property, wonderful staff — but deeply uncomfortable cultural choices I had an overall wonderful and exceptionally peaceful stay at Jamaica Inn. The property is beautiful, the staff were warm and helpful, and I particularly appreciated the à-la-carte approach rather than the excess of a traditional all-inclusive. However, there was one aspect of the hotel that significantly affected my experience: the way Jamaican history and culture are represented—or, more accurately, often not represented—throughout the property. I encountered repeated displays of British military figurines, naval prints featuring British warships and flags, European character pieces, polo and equestrian imagery, portraits and other objects associated with Britain's colonial past. My concern isn't that these historical objects exist. Jamaica's colonial history should not be erased. What troubled me was that they are displayed prominently and largely without historical context, while I saw comparatively little celebrating Jamaica's own people, national heroes, artists, writers, history of resistance and independence, or extraordinary cultural legacy. Taken together, the effect sometimes felt less like an interpretation of colonial history and more like nostalgia for it. Having visited other Jamaican hotels where local art, literature, history and national figures are thoughtfully incorporated into the property, I know it is possible to preserve a hotel's heritage while still making Jamaican identity central to the guest experience. I also questioned some of the traditions accompanying this aesthetic, including waitstaff wearing highly formal three-piece suits in Jamaica's heat and humidity, as well as the practice of feeding fish near the property, which I hope the hotel will review from a marine-conservation perspective. This is particularly unfortunate because Jamaica Inn has so much going for it. Its staff were excellent and should not be conflated with decisions about the property's décor, historical interpretation or traditions. As one of Jamaica's longstanding hotels, I think Jamaica Inn has an extraordinary opportunity to preserve its history while placing that history in proper context and allowing Jamaica, its people and its culture to occupy much more of the story.

After another wonderful stay at Jamaica Inn in June 2026, I thought it was finally time to put into words why I keep coming back. I've been returning to Jamaica Inn for the past six years and, quite simply, it has become my favourite place to stay in Jamaica. There are plenty of beautiful hotels on the island, but very few manage to combine understated luxury, genuine warmth and consistently exceptional service in the way Jamaica Inn does. A special mention has to go to Gerry in Reservations. She has looked after me over the years with the same warmth, efficiency and professionalism every single time. Nothing ever seems too much trouble, and she is one of the reasons I keep returning. This visit I was fortunate enough to stay in one of the newly refurbished Executive Wing rooms. The redesign is superb, but the standout feature for me was the shower. Standing there with uninterrupted views over the Caribbean while still enjoying complete privacy was one of those unexpectedly memorable moments that perfectly sums up what Jamaica Inn does so well. The service continues to be one of the hotel's greatest strengths. It's lovely to see so many familiar faces year after year, which says a great deal about the hotel's staff retention. While some of the younger team members are understandably still gaining experience and don't yet have quite the same instinctive attentiveness as some of their longer-serving colleagues, everyone was friendly, welcoming and eager to help. One of my favourite sights never changes: watching the waiters effortlessly carrying room service trays on their heads. It's a tradition that always makes me smile and is one of those uniquely Jamaican touches that gives the hotel so much character. The food remains excellent, with menus changing regularly enough that even as a repeat guest there's always something new to enjoy. Dinner is always a highlight, helped by the live evening entertainment, which creates such a relaxed and elegant atmosphere. If I had one small suggestion, it would be to include a little more reggae, rocksteady and ska in the evening music. Visitors come to Jamaica for many reasons, but experiencing the country's incredible musical heritage is surely high on that list. The musicians are very talented and understandably enjoy showcasing a broad repertoire, but a little more authentic Jamaican music would make the evenings even more special. Although I didn't manage a game of croquet this time, I did catch part of the flora and fauna tour and saw the new rainforest garden. It's clear how much pride the grounds team take in maintaining the property, and it really shows. The gardens are beautiful, and the beach remains absolutely immaculate. For anyone planning to snorkel, be prepared for a bit of a workout if the wind is up! However, swimming around to the far side of the bay is well worth the effort, with a lovely variety of tropical fish waiting to be discovered. What I appreciate most about Jamaica Inn is that it has never tried to chase trends or become something it isn't. It remains elegant without being pretentious, luxurious without being ostentatious, and above all, genuinely welcoming. In an age where true hospitality can sometimes feel like a lost art, Jamaica Inn continues to excel. After six years of returning, I can honestly say it still feels just as special as it did on my very first visit. That is a rare achievement, and I already know it won't be long before I'm planning my next stay.

I had a great time in Jamaica Inn. I was taught how to kayak for the first time by Jovanni. I, also, had an extraordinary time with Jovanni sailing in the beautiful blue ocean. He was very knowledgeable and very skilled with his hands. He's an asset to the hotel. Keisha, Maria, Shanelly, Guant and so many others made my stay pleasurable it became my home away from home. Peace, quite, tranquility is what we need and Jamaica Inn and staff did that for me. Thank you everyone. I'll be back soon.

My daughter and I just returned from a girls' trip to celebrate her Sweet 16 at the Jamaica Inn. She did not want to leave! I now understand why so many guests choose to return to the Inn year after year. Everything about this hotel is special... the staff is seriously the kindest and most helpful staff I've encountered (countless staff members have worked at the Inn for many years- they said it's like their family), the beach and views are postcard perfect, the food and drinks are delicious, the sunsets breathtaking, and the rooms are both well-appointed and comfortable. Each night, we drifted to sleep with the sound of the ocean gently lulling us to slumber. Shadow, the owners' loving Black Lab, is a joyful regular on the property. The Inn's timeless traditions (daily tea at 4 p.m., nightly live music, and the manager's cocktail hour are not to be missed). We even met one of the owners, Eric, at both check-in and check-out. It's clear that much love, attention, and care go into the management of this family-owned Inn. Thank you to everyone who made our trip so amazing... my daughter and I cannot wait to return!!

Husband and I had a fabulous time at The Jamaica Inn. We were there for 6 nights. Weather was perfect. Most beautiful relaxing beach. Staff were top notch. Everyone was kind and thoughtful. The food was unbelievable. Absolutely the best! And of course seeing Shadow was a plus whenever we saw her. Always made us smile.
