We had an amazing time at Secrets La Romana! Things we absolutely loved: the beach, the pools, how clean everything was! The Italian and Mediterranean were restaurants we 100% would've paid money for outside of a resort! Quality was amazing at all spots including the buffet as well. Limited options but higher quality overall. Drinks were a tad bit weak but very tasty. Preferred lounge and pools were definitely worth it. The better alcohol not so much but the extra spots were great. Service was on the slower side but every single person was SO KIND and attentive! There were a ton of bees at the poolside bars which we did not love. Something I hope they can address. Rooms were beautiful, AC was amazing and everything was very clean. Would definitely go back!

The good things first: The location is beautiful. The beach was clean, the water crystal clear, and at least during my stay (May 2026) it wasn't overcrowded. The resort itself is lovely too – lots of plants, trees, and greenery everywhere. Most of the staff were genuinely kind and seemed willing to do anything for their guests. I haven't seen a comparable resort in Europe yet. Now the bad part: I contracted salmonella from the food at the COASTAL GRILL restaurant on the DREAMS side of the resort. So if you're planning to eat there – be careful with this one. After two days of severe pain, I saw the resort doctor, who confirmed that my illness came from food at the resort, although salmonella couldn't be confirmed on-site since I didn't want to spend 1–3 days in the hospital for further testing. What struck me as odd was the staff member who accompanied me to the appointment: my Spanish isn't great, so I can't say for certain, but it sounded like she was searching for excuses as to why my infection supposedly didn't start at the hotel – which it definitely did. Out of my 11 booked days, I was only able to actually enjoy 2. The rest of the time I couldn't leave my room, as I constantly needed a bathroom nearby. Since my entire stay was ruined by the hotel's food safety issue, I asked for some form of compensation. Here again, the manager tried to downplay everything and suggested my illness might have come from somewhere else – even though their own doctor had already confirmed the source. After a lot of back and forth, they refunded 9 of my 11 Preferred upgrade payments (roughly 650 USD). Back in Germany, my doctor officially confirmed the salmonella infection traced back to that exact hotel. About the food in general (from a European perspective): The food is clearly tailored to American tastes, which is understandable given that most guests are American – just keep that in mind before booking. I personally missed European-style food. The buffet was below average in my opinion; I've seen much better buffets at far more average resorts in Europe. To end on a positive note though: Chinola and Mare Grill served really excellent steaks. In Germany you'd pay a lot of money for steaks of that quality – definitely recommended. One last tip: Don't book the Preferred status. In my opinion it's absolutely not worth it – you get access to a separate pool and beach area, but neither justifies the price. Book a standard room first, and if you really want Preferred, ask for an upgrade on-site.

This resort is definitely not a star resort. At most it’s a 3 star. I’ve stayed a secrets resorts before and thought this one would live up to the secrets name. I found out that the resort used to be a Hilton, which makes the experience we received make sense. For starters, the food is disgusting. Nothing about the food screams 5 star. During lunch time I asked a waiter for guac and chips, and she literally bought out a scoop of guac on a soft shell tortilla. I literally can’t make this up. The rooms are outdated and most of the restaurants are on the dreams side. We paid for the preferred club and it’s 1000% not worth it. My experience was so bad that I didn’t stay the entire time. We checked out and went to Excellence El Carmen and had such a pleasant experience. I highly recommend you rethink your stay at this secrets location. I will say that the service was decent, but everything else was completely mediocre.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Very Good Stay at Secrets La Romana Secrets La Romana delivered a wonderful experience from start to finish. The beach was beautiful, and during my stay the water was clear and completely free of seaweed, which made it even more enjoyable. The resort has large, well‑kept pools with plenty of space to relax, and the staff were consistently friendly and welcoming. There’s a nice selection of restaurants, and the food was well presented and thoughtfully prepared. Each meal felt fresh and enjoyable, with enough variety to keep things interesting throughout the stay. Overall, I give Secrets La Romana a very good review. Great beach conditions, friendly service, spacious pools, and quality dining all came together to make this a relaxing weekend.

After an initial adjustment with the room cleaning timings being too late, things were really good. So happy with the people from entertainment team specifically Armando and Dareling really made us have fun times. Also need to mention Angelica, the beach bar waitress was super attentive with us. All was amazing! Food, service, entertainment, beach and rooms all exceptional! Well done
