Hi all! I just wanted to leave my most honest review of this resort. Absolutely no hate to anyone who has loved this resort. My partner and I just came back from our vacation! We absolutely were stunned on how pretty the resort is, it is on the smaller side than many others but it truly is very beautiful. All staff were so friendly and we were taken care of very well. When we arrived we were surprise to have received a free upgrade to the ocean view junior sweet non preferred. It was an amazing view but we did notice it was VERY loud at 6-7am which woke us up almost every day. However our main concern and reason we won’t be coming back is because we did not enjoy the food. I was very sad and hopeful because I have seen soooo many reviews that the food was great. We went one night to seaside grill for steak after listening to some reviews which by the way now requires reservations! Our steak was very rubbery unfortunately, the salads were amazing tho! Hibachi was great but extremely humid in the restaurant, we also got very very small portions of rice and protein. The whole experience felt rush bc of how hot it was inside the restaurant. The food was great despite the small portions. We had pasta at Portofino and it wasn’t terrible but it did taste like your typical microwaveable pasta and we did not have a good experience with our server. My partner ordered a coke light, which he prefers if he’s going to be drinking lots of pop. Occasionally he’ll treat himself to a regular coke with whiskey and when he asked our server for this, our serve laughed and was very rude saying why didn’t you get a regular coke to begin with. We can see how silly it may seem and would understand if he was being sarcastic or laughing but you could most certainly tell he was being rude. We had a few meals at barefoot grill and the buffalo wings were good, we ordered hamburgers and hot dogs and all the fries were so soggy. The bread was so stale and tasted like it so old. We were so sad because we were hoping for some good authentic Mexican food which didn’t exceed our expectations or just good food in general. This is just out review and if you enjoyed the food I’m so glad you did! Nightlife is limited we went to desires one night it was popping and amazing, another night the music was very 2010’s big pop hits nothing of a wide range. On Sundays Fusion night we witness a man almost get big scammed by one of the vendors so please be careful. They were originally going to charge him $36 for a bracelet and when it didn’t go thru they realized it was supposed to be “$72” for a very simple bracelet! They didn’t even tell him the price change and thank god his card didn’t go thru. I told him what they were trying to do and thankfully I spoke Spanish and got his card back for him. The beach and bars were great! Other than the food and fusion night we truly enjoyed our experience

Great stay, amazing location, beautiful white sand beach (much less seaweed than other parts of Cancun). Great service from all the staff. Our waiter Edgar took care of us everyday beachside. Every restaurant we ate at was amazing and lots of dinner choices, we never did the buffet (which is closed for dinner) as the focus is on great sit down meals. Had our 15th anniversary and will always be choosing secrets for any kid free getaway.

We had an awesome week at Secrets Playa Mujeres with a few staff shout outs! Carlos and Katherine with the entertainment team were amazing! Carlos brought the energy every single day, always greeting us by name! Katherine did our bike tour and was so kind and fun! Eduardo at sugar reef bar was our favorite bartender all week! He took great care of my husband and I! Paulina, who is the front desk chief, handled the small hiccup that was the AC in our room going out. She was kind, understanding, and very helpful!! Minerva, Nidia, Sylva, Rivera did our massages and they were all amazing! “Mine” gave the best hand massage of my life 😍 Juan Daniel was our server at Ayara and he was funny, kind, and so prompt with the service. He was our favorite from all the restaurants! Food was great while we were there, especially the MTO omelettes in the morning at the buffet!

I’ve been to multiple all inclusives in my life and I’ve honestly never felt the need to write a bad review until now. Secrets Playa Mujeres feels like a “wannabe” upscale resort. Don’t let the branding fool you. In my opinion, this was worse than experiences I’ve had at Riu and Royalton, which is crazy considering Secrets is supposed to be the more premium/elevated option. We originally booked Riu Latino and changed our booking to Secrets because we thought we were upgrading to a better resort. Huge mistake. We were also considering Ocean Allure, and at this point I wish we picked anything else. From the start, things just felt off. There was some confusion around restaurant dress codes between the app, signage, and staff, which was frustrating, but honestly that ended up being the least of our issues. The biggest problem was the AC. On day 3, we called because the room wasn’t cooling properly. Someone came in, said he “fixed a coil,” but nothing changed. The room stayed over 24 degrees and eventually hit around 25 degrees, which is ridiculous when you’re in Mexico and trying to sleep comfortably. We also had a bathroom leak on day 4. Not the end of the world, but just another sign the room wasn’t properly maintained. On day 5, we complained again because the AC was still terrible. They offered to move us to what they called an “ocean view junior suite,” so we packed everything up and moved rooms around 11:30 PM. We thought we were finally getting a colder room. Nope. The new room was only slightly cooler, around 22 degrees, and still wouldn’t go lower. It also didn’t have the same jacuzzi setup as our original room, so calling it an “upgrade” felt like a stretch. We basically wasted time packing and moving late at night just to get a room that was maybe 1-2 degrees cooler. Overall, the resort was extremely underwhelming. The food was mediocre, the entertainment was weak, the sports bar was nothing special, and the service was inconsistent. Some of the workers were genuinely kind, and that’s probably the only real positive I can mention, but that doesn’t make up for the rest of the experience. For a resort that markets itself as upscale and premium, Secrets Playa Mujeres did not deliver at all. It felt like a basic 4-star resort trying to act luxury. I came in expecting a clear step above Riu or Royalton, and honestly, I’ve had better stays at both. I would not recommend this resort. If you’re on the fence between this place and somewhere else, I’d pick somewhere else.

Loved our trip. Great rooms. Great food. Great, great service. The staff were awesome. The negatives: (1) limited # of preferred bali beds. Had to get there 645am to get best ones, and by 745am, half were occupied. Other Bali beds located on property cost $$. (2) Our preferred room, which we loved the view, was located 8-10 minutes away and 4 flights up. Not bad, unless you want to go back to your room a couple of times a day. Not all room locations are like that. (3) The beach was covered with sargassum in May. There was no place to stick your feet in the Gulf and not have seaweed. Not the hotel's fault.
