Fantastic location near Colombo with beautiful beach and see view. Food is very good and friendly staff. Hotel infrastructure has seen better days. AC wasn't working properly. It barely made the room habitable. Floor was bit dirty. But eventually it didn't ruin our holiday. I spent 2 relaxing dayes at the property. Overall 3.5/5

This hotel was truly a gem and the center(core) of the hotel(the old Governor’s palace) is elegant and wonderful. The food is amazing and the selection of their buffet is one of the best I’ve seen. However, the rooms are not well maintained and many of the experienced staff have been replaced with young inexperienced staff. It is very sad since this place used to have such a great reputation and is now going down. Especially since this is such a cultural treasure.

Excellent location, excellent views of the ocean from the room, the pool/dining area and the rooftop terrace. Simply stunning. We had a direct ocean view room, and I could just sit back, relax and gaze at the ocean the whole day from the balcony with a cup of soothing Ceylon tea. They have a private beach too. And the breakfast buffet was awesome as well. Wonderful value for money ! The only problem is, the hotel is VERY old and the amenities are not at per with the standards expected from a decent 4 star hotel. We had torn curtains in our room, stained pillow covers, blankets & carpet, worn wooden frame of the extra bed we requested. One star less because of that. If you put that aside, its one of the best hotels in Colombo in terms of views and breakfast, without a doubt !

Sure it’s an old property. Yes it is full of character and charm. A museum piece, yes. A hotel? Not fit for purpose. Rooms are ridden with mould and dilapidated. Half our party were allocated rooms with dirty towels and bedding (used by the previous occupants). They had no free rooms on arrival (6pm) kept us waiting between 1-4 hours to be allocated rooms. Staff were rude. Bar service took 15+ minutes since the table service took priority. A badly set out buffet restaurant that places different food dishes in two different rooms, accessible through heavy double doors. They had at least stationed a doorman here to prevent juggling plates of food. But several dishes were in the aisle of the main entrance causing queuing chaos. Don’t stay here if you like a decent clean room.
Asanka Iroshana
The hotel is ideally located close to Colombo, offering a beautiful beachfront setting with stunning sea views. The food was of good quality, and the staff were warm and welcoming throughout our stay. However, the hotel infrastructure appears somewhat dated. I enjoyed two relaxing days at the property.
