I stayed at the Manhattan for a recent work trip. I want to start by saying the staff were terrific in all my interactions; they did everything they could to make my stay comfortable, and their effort really showed. The location is also hard to beat if you’re working in Manhattan. That said, the condition of the room and floor I stayed on (floor 12) was a noticeable contrast to the lobby. It doesn’t appear this floor has been renovated yet. The carpet was buckling in several places, and the lighting felt harsh and sterile compared to the warm, welcoming atmosphere downstairs. I also ran into repeated issues with my keycard; it only worked about one out of every four attempts, and I had to go back to the front desk multiple times to get it reset. On one occasion, security had to come up to let me into my room. Inside the room, the tub was bubbling, the shower valves were very loose, and the overall carpet condition wasn’t great. Another concern was elevator security, as it seemed like anyone could access any floor without restriction. Overall, the staff is clearly doing their best with what they have, but the property itself feels like it’s in need of significant updates to match the level of service they’re providing.

Absolutely worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. Even crappy rundown hotels. We checked in and our room had mold visibly shown in the bathroom and smelled of mildew. The hallway outside our room is completely soaking wet from the ice machine. Then I contacted the front desk to let them know the situation and explain to them that my wife had asthma and she said well if she has asthma I suggest going to the hotel behind us because all of our rooms are going to be similar because we haven't had a major renovation yet. I then asked if we could just switch rooms and she said she had to have a manager call me back and I waited over an hour almost two to speak to the manager while we waited down in the front lobby because she was with a client that entire time or so. They said I asked about getting another room and she mentioned about them being sold out and fully booked but said that they would cancel the reservation without a problem for us. I then told them that we were going to eat and go back up and see how she felt which then the manager's reply was no. You had to make your decision now. Either we cancel it now or I won't cancel it later after she made me wait over 2 hours for her. She couldn't give me 15 minutes because she said the time was too late and they needed to know if they could sell the room to somebody else. She then denied anything about the mold even though we have pictures.

We have just returned from 5 days at the Manhattan , we had concerns after reading the reviews & I am glad to say we did not experience any of the said problems from other reviews . Location -perfect Staff - very friendly Breakfast - a basic grab & go kiosk , but we enjoyed our croissant and coffee every morning ! Rooms - we upgraded via love holidays after reading the negative room reviews , we only paid an extra £125 to upgrade and the charge also then included breakfast ! The room was great, all newly renovated with a huge comfy bed , view over broadway ! Large tv and coffee machine & a lovely bathroom with toiletries . Hotel tax - when we checked in the lady said all taxes have been paid , so I just need to hold $200 for a holding deposit , on check out they then said it was actually for a facility fee and we would not be getting it back , I asked for the manager and she kindly refunded this for us ! So please be aware all taxes being paid does not include a facility fee of $40 per day per room I would definitely come back & highly recommend an upgraded room if you book as the floors for the older rooms do look very outdated

Stayed in a newly renovated room/floor, but not impressed. They got rid of the hallway carpet which was the only thing providing sound deading. You hear every elevator ding and footfall in the hall. Location is great, but no fridge in the room, and qualy of renovation is meager at best. Plumbing is reversed, lights are wired to all one switch so you can't have only bedside lights on, and impossible to open the bathroom door from the inside. Location, cleanliness, and view were good so 3 stars overall.

I would strongly discourage anyone from staying at The Manhattan at Times Square Hotel. The biggest issue is that the rooms are extremely old and outdated, completely different from what is advertised on their website. The furniture was dated, the carpets were old and stained (see the pictures), and the entire room felt as if it had not been renovated in decades. For the very high price they charge (300$ a night), this is simply unacceptable. The AC unit in our first room was incredibly noisy and clearly very old. We left the room for about 8 hours on a 90-degree day, and when we came back, the room smelled absolutely horrible from the AC, likely due to humidity, mold, or poor maintenance. Some of the vents were visibly dirty, and a few even appeared to have mold (see pictures). We had to request a room change because the smell was unbearable. The second room was slightly better only because the AC did not smell bad, but it was still extremely old and outdated. Again, nothing close to the modern, renovated rooms they advertise online. The bathroom came straight from a horror movie from the 60s (see the picture). The attached pictures show that the mattress was also in very poor condition and noticeably bent in the center. It made the bed uncomfortable and added to the feeling that the rooms are not being properly maintained. Another major disappointment was the “breakfast.” They charge an extra $30 for what they call breakfast, but it is literally just a grab-and-go option with ONE coffee, ONE bottle of water, and ONE piece of fruit or pastry. And the first day they didn't have fruit, so a pastry it HAD TO BE. That is nowhere near worth $30. You could get more at the nearest Starbucks for far less. Do not waste your money on the breakfast package. Overall, this hotel is overpriced, poorly maintained, misleading in its advertising, and badly in need of renovation.
