I stayed here for a couple of nights over a weekend and it was great. The location is perfect - it’s safe and very easy to get around from. There are loads of cafes and bars in the area. You’re opposite Penn station. The staff were great. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were heaven. I’d advise being on a higher floor as I was on the 21st floor with a view towards MSG and could hear the open air bar below from up there. Rooms can also be on the small side but for someone travelling solo and just in my room to sleep, that was fine. It’s probably one of my favourite hotels that I’ve stayed at in the city.

Overall a decent stay at the New Yorker (8 nights). First, the staff were all curteous and helpful, and accommodated all requests (including a late checkout). The location is fantastic, with subway entrances directly at the side of the hotel building, and walking distance to all of midtown. We had a basic Queen room on the 30th floor. The room was clean and we had a (surprise) balcony - or rather a HUGE patio with very nice views. This was unexpected and a nice touch Other aspects of the room were disappointing - the bed was very soft and uneven with squeaky springs. There was no closet space, just a few drawers. A fridge was no where to be found - had to bring ice in an included box. Toilet paper was super thin. Soap bar rather than liquid soap, which dries your skin. The price was quite high and almost doubled heading up to our stay - glad I caught it when I did. Still not the best value... Rather average on that front. I might stay there again in the future, but would honestly prefer something more modern and well kept at a less central location.

It was a nice stay at a historical property. We stayed on 31st floor and the room was nicely updated. Shower pressure was great. Fitness center was a great size with plenty of equipment. The location was perfect for our needs while we attended events, visited friends both in the city and upstate. Price was reasonable. The check in procedure was quick and easy and they were able to get us into our room slightly earlier than expected which was a nice surprise and gave us a little time for a nap before heading out for the evening events.

The morning of our checkout, we woke up to a notice under our door saying we had violated their no-smoking policy and were being charged $500. Neither of us smoke, and no one smoked in the room. We weren’t even in the room for part of the two-hour window they claimed their system flagged. When we went downstairs to talk to the front desk, they told us only the manager could handle it. After waiting an hour and a half, the manager, Barry, finally agreed to meet with us. From the moment he sat down, he was incredibly rude, condescending, and disrespectful. The things he said and the tone of his voice made it clear he had no interest in hearing us out. He talked down to us like we were lying and treated us like a problem to get rid of, not guests. He showed us their faulty report about smoke in the room and claimed that if we “figured things out,” we would benefit and the hotel would get “nothing.” Instead of trusting their guests or showing us any respect, they trusted a faulty system and were focused only on the hotel’s profits. He even admitted that people in the past have disputed this exact charge with their credit card companies. Then he offered to lower the fee to $250 if we agreed to pay right then and there, which was a huge red flag and felt super shady. This made it clear that it’s a common scam the hotel pulls off. We asked them to remove the charge, and they refused and charged our card anyway. As two young women traveling on our own, we felt completely taken advantage of. This was supposed to be a fun trip, and instead we spent our last morning stressed, waiting, and being treated like liars. The main issue is that hotel management continues to take advantage of its guests rather than being morally sound. This is a problematic and concerning that they have not faced repercussions for their actions. And we’re clearly not the only ones, there are many reviews we found that report the same people at this hotel. So many guests have been hit with this same smoking charge despite never smoking. Please think twice before booking here, and if it happens to you, dispute it with your credit card company.

Location of hotel is great & very reasonably priced for New York without paying over the odds! Staff were always friendly and helpful when needed. Rooms and bathrooms were outdated, however that is shown on the pictures- noted it is a very old hotel but could do with updating! Rooms were clean and cleaned everyday if needed :) I’d recommend purely for location!! :)
